Hello all. I will probably be moving to the island later this year/early next year. Are there any estate agents that specialize in long term rentals, and what areas are best for families with young children (5,3, <1).
Thanks.

Hello Rawle
Welcome aboard!
As I understand it, all the local real estate agents handle both short and long term rentals - although none specialise in long term lets. I have been told that it is often extremely difficult to secure long-term lets.
I guess the most suitable area would be very much a matter of personal preference.

Hello, Rawle. (Advance) welcome to Tobago also. As Steve said, no real estate agents in Tobago specialise in long term rentals. The leading agencies have web sites, so you can check their sites or contact them directly. Here are the best known ones:
Brian Abraham at Abraham Realty
http://www.abrahamrealty.com/
Almandoz Real Estate
http://almandoz-tobago.com/im.htm
Natalie Mahabir at Caribbean Estates
http://islreal.com/
Pat Phillips at Island Investments
http://www.realestatetobago.com/
Dawn Glaisher at Sea Jade Investments
http://www.seajadeinvestments.com/
With respect to locations, it's pretty much dependent on your budget, what standard of house you are looking for, the type of neighborhood, and how far you want to commute if you will be working in Tobago. Close to Scarborough, the best-known middle and upper income residential areas would be Signal Hill and Bacolet. The agents will be able to give you suggestions.
Good luck with your search.

Long Term Rentals

There is quite a lot of long-term rental accomodation on the island but much of it you will only find through 'word-of-mouth', so the best thing might be to let any friends/family/colleagues/etc already on the island know that your are looking for somewhere (and your budget!)... and let the grapevine do the rest.
Although it may seem like a hassle, if you are not too familiar with the isalnd it might be worth arranging something short term for when you arrive so that you can get a better idea of what area might suit you best -a lot will depend on where schools are, what activities you like etc. There is also a wide range of quality available, and the rent being asked for doesn't always reflect the standard of what's on offer, so it would also give you a chance to eyeball the long-term rental properties.
Good Luck!
