myTobago – your questions, review and comment about Tobago

My husband and I are off to tobago on 19th May , its our first visit but I have been watching this site and am greatly looking forward to doing not very much for 2 weeks. We love snorkelling so we wil no doubt do a fair bit of this in between chilling! The other thing I would love to see is dolphins, any suggestions of the best places to go to see them?

There were some bottlenose dolphins in Englishman's Bay yesterday but by 19th May who knows?

Depending on where you are staying, it might be best to ask one of the boat tour operators (Frankie's, Woody's, King David, Ali Baba etc) if they know where you could see some, otherwise ask the fishermen at the local co-op. Dolphins, in particular move around, and often it's as much luck as anything else to see them.

A couple of years ago, we had a wonderful speedboat/snorkling trip on Cocomotion and we found dolphins almost immediately. I know that was just good luck - but Marlon did say that they often come across pods on these trips up the Caribbean coast. It's a great half day trip anyway - can't recommend it enough!

During this years holiday, only just come back, I did a coastal tour with Woody`s tours. It was a great day from ten till about five. i was collected from Store bay and taken back to my apt in Bon Accord. The boat leaves from Turtle Beach and has a good canvas canopy. We followed the Carribean coast catching fish on hand lines on the way and saw dolphins.Lunch was BBQ on the beach where we were able to swim with and touch the breeding pair of Manta Rays that frequent that particular bay.WOW That was spectacular.Also had several snorkelling opportunities. I only learned this year thanks to Wendell on the Sun Fun so being in the water with the Rays was even better. I did the same trip last year with Frankie`s Tours but Woody wins for me.The difference was made by the boatman who played with the Rays and fed them. They obviously know him and respond to him therefore staying around us and the boat the whole time we were in the bay.
