We are off to tobago next easter for the first time. We are staying in castara retreats. We would like to go to sunday school but not keen on driving ourselves at night. What is the best way of doing it? Also whch of the easter events do people recommend. We have two boys aged 11 and 9.
Thank you

Hi Helen

You only have one option if you don't wish to drive to Buccoo - a taxi. You can arrange to have one collect you at a pre-determined time at the end of the evening. I suspect you will be better off arranging for a taxi somewhere local to Buccoo to come up and collect you so that they can be doing work in their local area, rather than having to return to Castara - it's a good hour away from Buccoo. Have a word with the owners of Castara Retreats because they should know the best, most reliable taxis in the area.

The main event at Easter is the Buccoo goat and crab races (they don't race together - separate events).

walk it ?

Just out of curiosity steve ? :?

How far is it to walk from Bucoo to Grafton Beach Hotel as I have read that taxi's can be a bit hit and miss on the return leg (cant remember where tho) ?

Hi Warren. My best guess is between three and four miles. Not a distance to be walked in the heat of the day, particularly as their is no pavement (sidewalks).

Hi Helen,
While in Castara, you could make arrangements for a taxi locally. Ask Ancle George, at the Naturalist Beach Resort, just at the west end of the beach, and he will direct you to Mr. Taylor, the local driver. I imagine you could ask just about anyone in town, and they could help you find him, or an alternative ride. However, Mr. Taylor was a reliable, sober sort of person. I felt quite relaxed with him behind the wheel.
Also, as an alternative, you could rent a small Nissan Sunny from Ancle for about the same rate as the rental boys down by Crown Point.
Castara was a real 'get=away=from=it=all' for us.
I enjoyed the lifestyle so much at Castara, and I wish you all the best there.
Frank
