Hi me again

We have plans to hire a car for some of the time we are in Tobago, what sort of police force operate in Tobago ?

are they generally friendly? :o I dont seem to fnd any bad reports about the police anywhere. I guess its same as anywhere in the world you upset them and they'll jump on you !

But my main concern is that when we are out it generally over the lunch period and as a rule do like a shandy with my food to help the digestion you understand and was wondered whether there are any drink driving limits in Tobago. I would prefer not to infringe any laws while there so I know the answer is dont drink and drive but I am not talking serious beverages here just a social glass or 2, :P

any help appreciated

thanks in advance

Im sure if you read the question properly you would understand it !!

Its not a question of gettin bladdered its a simple question is it ok to have a shandy meaning shandy not 20 rum punches and be ok as some countries have little or no tolerance to drink/drive.

I dont drink/drive at home as it not worth losing my license for, it may be ok for you to go out and have a few ciders with your pasty but we dont do that here matey, so unless you have something constructive to say please don't answer my questions with sarcasm.

Steve, Glynn or Patrick could you shed any light on the subject please !!

You don't have to worry, there are no drinking driving laws in T & T, presently. They have talked about introducing limits for as long as I can remember, but haven't implemented any system.

As far as the police are concerned, they are pretty cool, unless of coarse you irritate them.

Hope this helps

Philip

Thank you Philip

Hi

Thank you philip

It certainly does help but as stated I have no intention of being stupid as I cherish my own life as I have consideration for others

I am coming to Tobago to enjoy the island and get married with the intention of returning every couple of years to celebrate our anniversary.

Appreciate your response

Thanks again

Hi Warren

I'm not sure what the exact legal position is re Drink/Drive in Tobago and hopefully somebody can let us all know.

In my experience the police have always been friendly and helpful, but in general over there, when you've crossed the line they come down on you like a ton of bricks. So, if you assume the law to be the same as in the UK, you should be safe enough. However, I always try to give responsible advice in the forum, so without wishing in any way to appear sanctimonious, the only safe advice must be not to drink and drive at all.
