XL flight price increases

I've been looking into returning to Tobago in the Summer of 2008, but have just noticed the massive price hike that XL is trying to get away with. I was looking to travel on 23rd Aug 2008 for 2 weeks with my wife and 4 children. The price on XL's web site comes out at £3930 compared with £2028 for the same 2 weeks in 2007. At these prices it is cheaper to use Virgin. Now reconsidering plans as may have been priced out of the market.

Hi Andy

Maybe it's down to those two little words - School holidays

Seriously though; these are the published prices for a year in advance.

If I'm reading your post correctly, you say that flights for a month's time are a smidgen over £2k? Bearing in mind that's for a party of 6 that's just over £300 each, which is rock bottom, late -deal pricing.

I would imagine that come July '08 the mega price of nearly £4k will be reduced considerably, subject to availablility of course.

It's a gamble to leave booking flights so late with your family holiday on the line, especially if you've already booked accomodation, but clearly there will be an ideal time to book to take advantage of any discounts and if you can be flexible where you stay (easier said than done with 6 of you) then you could get a bargain deal by booking next year instead of now.

Hope all goes well with the preparations

Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve

Yes you are right that there is an increase in the flight prices due to the school holidays, but these being the last two weeks aren't normally as severe.

£338 a ticket is a good price, and that's what attracted me to look at going in peak rainy season, but with 6 travelling costs soon mount up.

The price for this year is not a last minute discount price as I have been monitoring the situation since my last trip at Easter this year. And strangely I paid less for those high season school holiday flights than they are trying to rip me off for next year!

If I'm being forced into paying the higher prices then I'd prefer to go Easter 2009 and get the better weather. Plus it would co-inside with a noteable birthday for my wife.
