all yuh get de email bout de Hilo employee in Trinidad? Where somebody order a cake with the instructions:

Hi-Lo Employee:
"Hello 'dis is Hi-Lo bakery department, how can I help you?"

Customer:
"I would like to order a cake for a party this week, please."

Hi-Lo Employee:
"What you want written on d cake?"

Customer:
"Best Wishes Suzanne" and underneath that "We will miss you"....

Hi-Lo Employee:
"OK is that all? Okay, come to collect in 3 days, mam."


THREE DAYS LATER................



And then there was the TEXTEL CREDIT UNION employee:

Person who called: Is it possible to fax me the Christmas Loan Form?

Textel Credit Union employee : No we can't fax the form

Person: Why is that?

Textel employee : Cause it is on colored paper.

Person: Or hor then. No scene.

Er sorry, I get the first joke, but my Tobago-ese isn't up to scratch. Can you translate to Anglo Saxon please?

I have to confess I've never sent or seen a fax in my entire life!
So what does " Oh hor then. No scene" translate to? "OK alright then?"

Off to check bank account then Christmas shopping. Hate it, hate it, hate it. Why do we do this to ourselves?

just don't do it then... declare the presentfree christmas and just buy enough to make a nice dinner and that's it. I try to avoid any shop but especially the supermarkets the days before christmas... even here in tobago it is a nightmare. when you reach penny safers in canaan and parking is a proble and the trolleys outside are all gone: DON'T GO IN! the busy shoppers and the sleeping cashiers will give you a heart attack!
so I try to buy everything in advance and just pass by some veggie shop that does not look overcrowded the days right before the holidays... enjoy

I too hate Christmas shopping

Two years ago we went to Mexico for Christmas (couldn't get booked for Tobago). After my Mum died in the September, we decided Christmas would not be the same, so decided to do something completely different and chose a 'White Christmas' on the White sandy beach of the Caribbean Coast of Mexico. We went with the intention of spending the week on the beach in an All Inclusive Hotel - and that's what we did. I bought no presents, sent no cards. The holiday was our present to each other and the kids (they were 14 & 17 at the time). I enjoyed every single minute of it, especially the run up to Christmas - no queueing up for stuff battling with the crowds - it was sheer heaven. Father Christmas visited the hotel Mexican style and my youngest son took great pleasure in jumping out of the pool and sitting on his knee !! and left him with a very wet lap !!

I would quite happily say Bah Humbug and do the same every year. But although the kids enjoyed it, they missed having a 'family' Christmas with our extended families and of course all the presents they would have normally got- not that they don't get everything they want during the year as they were both working part time, so buying for them at Christmas feels like buying for buyings sake.

So this year, everything possible will be purchased online and maybe in a few years when the kids decide they would prefer to spend Christmas with their girlfriends, me and my husband will be able to do the same again - I can't wait.
