We stayed in Coasthangar Lodge which is a beautiful house overlooking the bay from both sides. It has two outdoor decking areas, each with a different view. We cannot fault the accommodation or the welcome we received - we found everybody in Tobago that we encountered was friendly and helpful - particularly those at Castara. Porridge even visited us when we were ill and made us bush tea!! We had a wonderful Christmas and New Year and our 15th wedding anniversary.
We would whole-heartedly recommend Castara Retreats to people looking for a special place to spend some time. The only downside is the very loud music which base beats its way into your sub-conscious, it's so persistent. If you like loud music you will be fine! I do not mean that the music is being played at Castara Retreats but because of the acoustics of the bay, you can't really get away from it. We met plenty of people who felt that the music being played on the beach and in the village was a positive thing! They like to dance the night away. That's fair enough, each to his own, but to us it was a downside.

I think that was just a Christmas and New Year thing. No problems like that when we were in Castara, but I hear where you're coming from, that base can go low and get really annoying.

Hello Stephanie

I arrived in Tobago and Castara on Saturday evening and am sat on the verandah of the Blue Marlin Suite, above Cafe Delight at the Naturalist Beach Resort, directly on the main beach. The source of the noise, the Cascreole Restauarant, is within site, just a couple of hundred yards down the beach.

I am so sorry that your holiday was spoiled by the noise from Cascreole. As Phil says, this was primarily a problem in the period leading up to Christmas and the New Year. However, is has been an increasing problem over the last year and one that affected most properties in the village - not just Castara Retreats.

This issue was taken up with the owners of Cascreole/Angel Apartments back in early January. He is now fully aware of the feeling expressed here in the forum and in private emails to me. I am constantly checking with contacts in the village and understand that there has only been one Saturday-night party/function since the start of the year. I can certainly confirm that in the three days I've been here, I haven't heard a peep from the place.

So, please don't hold that incident against Castara Retreats, Castara or Tobago for that matter. I'm confident that this is a problem solved.

I thought it was worth posting another short message, considering the two replies I have received. I didn't say there were parties at Cascreole! I said there was constant music. Sometimes it was from the neighbour's house down from Coasthanger Lodge; I even told the lady her music was too loud but the volume wasn't adjusted. The music from the beach was played sometimes all day, when Cascreole was empty. One day the music from the beach stopped at 6.30am and an hour later the neighbour down from Castara started her music at 7.30am. As well as this there are cars with speakers bigger than any I have ever seen, driving around all night with the base beat so loud it made the floor of the house vibrate. So, we weren't actually aware of any parties!
Having said all that, we did have a wonderful time in Tobago and Castara Retreats is a very special place which we will never forget. For us, the music was the only negative thing about the whole of Tobago. We can't fault the place in any other way.
