Hi,
During my forthcoming visit I would like to buy a Tobagonian Pay As You Go SIM card so that I can call locally, instead of using very expensive UK phone there…
During my last visit I remember seeing Top Up signs everywhere, but my questions is can I purchase such SIM card myself…
I remember discovering, some years ago when I was in St Lucia, that they had some weird restrictions around tourists and such SIM cards…
Is it possible to buy Tobagonian SIM/Phone ???

for the sim card you have to go to TSTT (bmobile) or a digicell branch (one is in the big new mall in the lowlands), the top up cards you can get everywhere you see the signs you were referribg to. I never heard of a restriction for tourists. when you don't upload the card anymore you will lose the number within month and it is free for the next customer, so there should be no problem there... if you have a free (unlocked) triband cell the card should work if not TSTT sometimes also has cheap cells (around 200TT) to offer.
it is by the way a very cheap way to call abroad (even cheaper than the homelines here, I always use a call by call cell for that reason).
hope that helps

TSTT in Scarborough apparently has SIM cards at a reduced rate at the moment - 25TT for pay-as-you-go (known as 'Prepaid' here) and post-paid.

Hi Sari,
though I userd to visit Tobago twice a year

I bought a SIM card from TSTT and used it for around 3 years. Then the card was locked when I came back after around 10 month. I went to TSTT and they unlocked it but didn't look very happy with it. In between as I couldn't go back so often as I would like to I leave the card with a local friend who use it once in a while and refill it every second or third month with little money. This makes sure I can use it the next time I'm there.
As Steph wrote with the local SIM the phone costs are very smal. I always use it for calls to Germany when I'm there.
Enjoy and cheers
