some advice for our holiday with kids

Hello, we are going to Tobago next saturday and are taking our two daughters (3 and 6 yrs). I am a bit worried about the long flight with two kids! We are staying for the first four nights around Store Bay and then heading to Castara for 10 nights. I wonderd if anyone could suggest a good place to eat on the first evening near store bay/crown point that does local food but also something that kids will eat.
Also, can someone tell me if they have ver stayed the cottage belonging to Blue Mango called The Blue Mango cottage in castara. I have only ever seen reviews of sweetpoint and cliffhanger cottages but wondered what the cottage called blue Mango is like. Collin, who is the owner, had availability for this cottage at quite late notice and it isn't on his website. I do believe it exists! but wondered if anyone had actually stayed there. Colin seems really nice over email excepet he doesn't answer them that much! Does anyone also have any tips or advice for being with kids in castara?
Thanks for your help!

Hi Amber,
I hope the flight goes well for you. You may well have two very weary little people by the time you get there. For the first night if you want to find familiar "comfort food" there are a couple of take away venues very near the airport.Church's chicken/Pizza Boys which is a Kentucky equivelant is almost visable from the airport.Royal Castle, is a chicken and burger take away actually at the airport.Maybe three mins walk away is The After Hours Bar and Restaraunt which has a take out menu from behind the bar.You will soon discover that local food can be bought at several places in that area and of course at the row of very good food kiosks at store bay beach. The beach ones only serve during the day but you might like to sample the Bake and Shark for breakfast. I love it!
Look in Food/Drink,Restaraunts/ Area1.
On Store Bay beach if you ask for either Sugie or Dimples (they all have nick names) who sell beach chairs you will get as much local info as you want or trips ect arranged.
Hope you have a great holiday,
Gill

As I don´t know where you stay...

Crown Point area..
We can start with a fast food place at the airport, but that´s not a restaurant.
By the first junction from Crown Point Airport (2-3 minutes) you find La Iguana restaurant on Store Bay Local Road, small but nice.
Further on at Store Bay Local Road you also have Boncers/Toucan Inn.
Further on the main road Milford Road you find Pelican Inn (5-10 minutes), and across that restaurant you have fast food places with hamburgers and Pizza.
In front of Golden Star (to Pidgeon Point) you turn left and after 50m you find a small restaurant on right hand side, sometimes busy because it´s a small popular place.
There´s also an other resuaurant, Colours, nearby that junction, on the main road, on the right hand side.

I haven´t seen a childrens meny at any plave, but maybe I´m wrong as I don´t have children with me. Others might come up with more choises if we know where you will stay.
There´s also of course hotel in this area...

For children, Store Bay Beach is nice with very nice sand to play with, the beach alwasy have 4-5 life guards on duty, but you can never leave them alone as the water get deep very quickly.
Pidgeon Point is different, protected by a reef, and the water i shallow, the water is also warmer but not so clear as it is in Store Bay. One or sometimes two lifeguards are walking aroung at the beach.
You have to pay a small fee to enter Pidgeon Point and it´s to far for a walk with small kids, you need a car.

You will most likely get information about the Blue Mango from peoples who use to stay in that area, so I don´t say anything about that part.

I wish you a happy stay..
Ronald

Thank you so much for this infomation. This forum is so helpful.
I still haven't come across anyone who knows the actual blue mango cottage yet (castara) so if you hear of anything then let me know. I am sure it will be great as eveything on this site says castara is amazing. I always get a bit stressed about taking kids this far....but I'm sure they will love it.
Thanks!
Amber

I've stayed in the Blue Mango Cottage, but only for 2 nights after Ivan (the hurricane) brushed Tobago and that was back in 2004. We were staying at Sweet Point, but being more exposed it got a bit wet and needed to dry out!
All the cottages at the Blue Mango are slightly eccentric and we loved them for that. I was a bit out of sorts when I stayed in the Blue Mango Cottage (as you can imagine), but I think your children will love it. I'm hesitant to add too much detail because Colin does make changes to his cottages and much may have changed since then. However it is on a little lane leading down to Big Bay, a lovely big sandy beach, so take buckets and spades, sun hats and plenty of lotion. There was a balcony out the back over looking trees etc. so a lovely place to watch birds, lizards bats etc out of the sun.
There was also a short cut to Little Bay (Heavenly Bay) passed the other cottages which if the same will be quite an adventure for little legs in itself.
Also take good mosquito repellent.
Go with as sense of adventure and I think you and your children will love it. Ask, when you're there, if you're unsure of anything, we found everyone most helpful, if you take your time.
