myTobago – your questions, review and comment about Tobago

Hi All
I am not sure if everyone is aware, the departure tax, which we are used to paying at the airport before we leave Tobago is now payable in advance. I received a phone call from XL last week (and a letter yesterday) stating that this was to be payed to XL for all departures from Tobago after 1st April 2008. This doesn't really make a lot of difference as we know we have to pay at some point, XL charged £9.00 each.

for the german travellers: condor has it included in its price since years. it does not make a big difference, it is just convenient, when they tack the tax slip to your boarding pass at the check in and you don't have to join another line and you don't have to remember to keep 100TT$ back for that purpose...
if every airline would do that they could just close their tax counter...

Yesterday's(Friday "8 March) Tobago news stated quite categrically that as from 1 April 08 departure tax will be collected from the carrier.The passenger will pay the tax on purchase of his/her flight and it will appear as code KT on the ticket.No more queing and talking to a black piece of glass with a couple of holes in it!!!!!

This is good news indeed I hate that Darth Veda grill/window thing with a passion . It was always a sour note at the end of the holiday. Was there actually anyone on the other side! It always gave me the creeps. A bit like that feeling as a child when there might have been something lurking under the bed to grab your ankle if you didn't get in quick enough . No I never needed phsycho therapy for it
Anyway I have paid my £9 this time in advance and hope the released window beast lives happily ever after

I have to agree with Gill about paying the tax at the "grill", it will mean we can have an extra Carib in the cafe before going through to the departures lounge.

Hum.... Hi Linda.... Does anyone know how American Airlines handles this? Carol and I are going again this Sept.. 26th..actually...only a few weeks away...for one week....

the departure tax is included in the your airfare now, you don't have to worry about it.
If you have bought your ticket more than 6 month ago you might have to pay it at the airport, though.

We booked our flight back in January '08. I have just been in contact with Virgin and we have to pay the departure tax at Tobago before we fly. Oh well......

We have just get our money back from XL. and bought new tickets by British Air, and we have not heard about it there, so i dont know if we have to pay the tax on Tobago.???

Don't worry - if you have just bought your ticket, it WILL have been paid for by the carrier. You won't have to pay anything over there.

As another said , so its time for a Carib more or a Cola hehe. Its not so funny to sit to long upstairs and wait for the flight, and we cant get enough of Tobago.
