My wife and I stayed at Breadfruit Grove at the Beach House for the last two weeks of February, our first visit to Tobago. Other reviews have already mentioned the mosquitos and sandflies (bring strong repellent); and some building work which will of course be temporary. However, once you get past the noise (and we did adjust quite easily after a few days)there is so much on offer here.
Carole and Graham, the owners, happened to be staying in the accommodation above whilst we were there. They are lovely people and went out of their way to make our stay even more enjoyable. Don't miss Handel and his crew at the Boat House, and have your percussive skills at the ready...
For us, the birds were one of the reasons for our visit. I was not disappointed and the Beach House provided us with unique photo opportunities. I saw 20 species of birds from the verandah on the first day but a species count does not do justice to the daily, close-up views afforded by many of them at sea and at our bird feeder. Some were very colourful - not least the blue-crowned motmot, and I would struggle to think of a more spectacular "garden bird"!
Lastly, a special thank you to Porridge. A warm, generous, humourous and lively soul who helped us get a feel of what Tobago was about - our boat trip and Saturday night out were unforgettable experiences.
A big thumbs up and a big thank you - we hope to be back soon!
