Getting there from Guyana

Any thoughts on boat or air travel from Georgetown, Guyana?

I was brought up on a sugar plantation 18 miles from Georgetown. In those days (pre-1962), pretty much the only way to get to Guyana, other than by sugar cargo ship, was to fly to Trinidad. I imagine there are still regular flights from Guyana to Trinidad and there you have the regular airbridge between Trinidad and Tobago.
