Things for kids to do

Hi all,
First time visitor here - booked the last two weeks in August at Turtles Retreat. Really looking forward to it!
I have two young kids - 2 and 5 - and wondered if there is much for them to do other than playing in the pool or on the beach (which they will love anyway!)?
Any advice gratefully received!
Also would be interested to hear from anyone who has stayed at or near the Turtles Retreat house and knows any interesting places to visit or nice bars/restaurants in the immediate vicinity (i.e. walking distance). We will be hiring a car anyway but just wondered all the same.
Thanks!
Paul

Hello Paul
Welcome aboard.
I'm afraid that Turtles Retreat is not a villa that we know anything about. I assume it is a very new villa and the owner's haven't notified us about it, so we don't list it. However, a quick check tells me that it is on the Courland Development. Sorry to dissapiont you, but I regret that there is nothing within realistic walking distance of that development. It will be very much beach or pool unless you use the car. I'm sure you'll enjoy it though.

Hi Paul, My kids are a little older than yours now, 11 and 13 . However I think yours would enjoy a visit to Fort George, just looking at the big cannons tends to keep young kids happy, combine it with a trip into Scarborough and call at Ciao Cafe for the best icecream in the world!
I would reccomend taking some inflatable toys to play with in the pool, along with ofcourse the colouring books etc, that parents with young kids never go on holiday without anyway.

Thanks for the advice.
I'm told the beach is about 7 mins walk from the house, so very much looking forward to strolling there with the kids some days. I know they will love the pool and jacuzzi too so if we need to drive out for some other distractions then that's no big deal.
Ice cream noted! Any other suggestions for eating places welcomed!
Really looking forward to our first visit - I hope the wildlife is as good as the books suggest?

In the area of restaurants... Shore Things Cafe & Craft Shop, located on the southeast side of the island on Lambeau Old road, just outside the Scarborough (local town) vicinity. The most amazing creations come out of Giselle's kitchen. (I can never resist her chocolate cream cheese Brownies) There's also Ciao Ice cream Cafe and Italian Restaurant in Scarborough, also very good.

Welcome aboard, Kime.
Please don't recommend Shore Things and Ciao Café. For one thing, we won't be able to get in on our next trip and secondly, the visitors will end up too large to get on the plane home.
