Tobago Our View

Last Friday we returned from our first visit to Tobago. It was everything and more than promised. I am going to post certain comments in the relevant places, so just to summarize here:

1. If you're not on too tight a budget stay All Inclusive at the Coco Reef. It is 'simply the best'.

2. My husband’s most lasting impression - David Rook's nature tour on Little Tobago. Standing high on the cliffs at the same spot as Richard Attenborough's 'Trials of Life' was filmed, watching the elegant, white Tropic birds hovering only a few feet away with the blue Atlantic far below, is something he says he will never forget.

3. My most lasting impression - The People. Holiday brochures, etc often describe smiling, friendly locals and our initial view was that there was no difference here than anywhere else we have been to. In fact the lady behind the desk in the tourist information office opposite the airport is definitely in the wrong job! and does nothing to promote that image. However by the end of our first week we were totally won over and without doubt they are the friendliest people we have ever met. It is impossible to name everybody but to mention just a few - Benecia and her cheery 'hello' every morning as she seated us in the dining room at the Coco Reef; Delia their Chief Horticulturalist and her passion for flowers (don't miss her garden tours); The beach vendor who took great pride in showing us how he made the necklaces whilst at the same time sharing his views on life (I only wish I could remember all his sayings 'Age is only a number' but one; Then Zorro our calypso-singing taxi driver who entertained us all the way to Scarborough and back and who sang 'Tobago we shall miss you' as he drove us to the airport for our return at the end of the holiday.

So it only remains for me to yet again say thank you for this marvellous web site and to wish all those lucky people who have yet to travel a wonderful holiday, I have no doubt you will find Tobago as special as we did.

Correction- Before some keen-eyed surfer points it out, in my report above it should read David Attenborough not Richard.
Sorry for the slip
