myTobago – your questions, review and comment about Tobago

Over coming months I propose to completely revamp the myTobago site. As part of this process, I would like to use a lot more illustration.

This message is a plea to all readers who have nice photographs of Tobago. Some of you have already sent me some wonderful shots. I am most grateful to you and many of your shots will be included in the site. However, I need more. Photographs of beaches, bays and coves, inland scenes and local events, interesting (local) people, hotel and restaurants – you name it, we need it. The basic brief is anything and everything that will help me to portray Tobago – as a reminder to those who have been there and to show those who have not what they have been missing.

Needless to say, the shots must be interesting, illustrative and of high quality. Time and the loss of quality through scanning mean that I would prefer not to use conventional printed photographs, unless they are of truly exception quality. I am primarily looking for high quality digital photographs that can be supplied at a very minimum size of 1024x768 pixels @ 72dpi. If you have any suitable photographs, please either email them to me or send by CD-ROM. If you have a CD-writer, just let me know and I will gladly send you a blank CD-ROM.

If you dont want to trawl through them all then THIS is my favourite.

Also of interest is THIS ONE which shows the largest brain coral in the world / western hemisphere depending on who you believe.

I also have several small movies taken at various dive sites if anyone is interested I can post them to my site or e-mail them to you ( about 10mb each )

If anyone wants large res pictures of any of the photos just let me know.

You have done a great service to the Tobago people so I am granting you freedom of the city of Scarborough - this means you can drive goats around the one way system on Sundays. If that doesn't bring you back for a return visit then even discounted self catering accom will not!

Sorry for taking so long to reply, but my main office server crashed two weeks ago and it's been totally manic since then. You've got some lovely photos there and I would love to reproduce some of them when I eventually get around to revamping the site. I'll contact you later as I'll need high res copies. Just as an addendum to my main request for good, high quality, high resolution photographs to illustrate myTobago, may I add a particular plea for shots of two main subjects:

Local Life: I'm particularly interested in obtaining nice shots that illustrate the wonderfully colourful LOCAL life of Tobago - buildings, shops, people, events, etc.

Restaurants: I also need good interior and exterior photos of EVERY restaurant/cafe/bistro/pub and club on the island to illustrate a more comprehensive article on the subject.

Thanks in anticipation. While I can't offer payment for shots used, I will naturally be glad to send blank CD-ROM or DVD-R media to anyone with suitable stock. Naturally all photographs used will be fully acknowledged and accredited to the photographer concerned and I certainly do not expect photos to be provided on an exclusive basis.

The latest 'MALIBU' T.V advert was filmed in Tobago and features the stranded boat at Grafton beach.
This series of humourous ads has also featured Pigeon Point and Moria.

I wish I had read this thread before going, I certainly would have snapped some more exterior/interior shots of restaurants! You'll find an interiors of Ciao Cafe and Jemma's, as well as the grounds of the Arnos Vale waterwheel. As well as assorted other pictures that may/may not be of interest.

Each of the pictures that are available on the site can be accessed in their original high resolution. You'll find links below each picture that will take you to that "original" size, and you can go ahead and save those to your local disk if you like.

Thanks Karin. I can't look at them now because connecting to the Internet via carrier pigeons here in sunny Tobago makes looking at graphics a bit of a pain in the proverbial. I have flagged your message and will have a good look at them as soon as I'm back in the UK next week. Thanks a lot.

We have about 300 digital photos of most of the island. I guess about 20 or so may be of interest. I'll send a few by e-mail - let me know what you think

the photos by mark are very good i recognise the ones of stone haven bay, my villa was just accross the road from there

We are new registrants to your site but have been visiting the site for a while now. Kelly and I had the pleasure of being to Tobago a number of times since our first visit in 1999 and have a number of photos which we would love to share. Are you still looking for images and what is the best way to get them to you?

Welcome aboard!

Yes, I'm still very much looking for photos to illustrate the site (hope to start work on a new site within the next 2-3 months). Are your photos digital? Do you have a CD-ROM burner? If so, the best thing is to drop them onto a CD and send it to me. It all depends upon how many "good" shots you have. I ideally need them at a minimum resolution of 1024x768 and wouldn't be able to use anything under 800x600. If there are not too many shots, you could, of course, email them to me. If they are paper photos, they would have to be scanned - either by someone your end or by sending the photos over to me.

Hi Everyone

My comments throughout this thread still apply. With full thanks to all the wonderful photos I have already received (around 5,000 to date), finding those magical shots that we are looking for is no easy task.

My biggest 'short-fall' is photographs that illustrate life on Tobago. Photographs of local people, local housing, children in their wondful school uniforms, at steel pan practise, etc., etc. Anything and everything that portrays local life.

Other than that, I have two specific urgent needs to illustrate articles that are nearing completion:

• a) Photographs of scuba divers on the surface, in the dive boat, entering the water, or even underwater - but of 'people'.
  b) Photographs of people snorkelling - or even snorkeling.
