I am due to spend a 2 week stay at LGC from 19th July with my wife for hopefully a completely luxurious and relaxing break.
As much as this site has been very useful I still remain confused and somewhat sceptical as to the quality of the resort.
If anyone has travelled in the last month could they please give me an honest review of the resort and hopefully alleviate my concerns.

Hi Nigel
We may strike lucky and get a report from a recent returnee, but given that we are now well into the low season, it is increasingly unlikely.
Jill and I receive a substantial amount of mail from visitors who do not wish to air their views in public. Not surprisingly, this means more letters/emails of dissatisfaction than of praise. We value this feedback immensely. Supported by reports in the forum, it has a major influence on which businesses we review and recommend.
Le Grand Courlan has gone through troubled times – some of their own making and some not. It’s a hotel that seems to bring out strong reactions in people, for reasons that I do not quite understand. Having said that, I have to tell you that I do not think that the ‘negative’ feedback we receive is substantially higher than for other hotels in the 4/5* category. I know that LGC has an extremely loyal following of repeaters and this surely must be a very positive indicator.
There’s not a hotel on Tobago, or in the world, that does not receive criticism. Nowhere is perfect for everyone. I’m sure that you must have chatted to other guests while staying at a hotel and found them to be in love with the place when you were less than enamoured, or vice versa. Because of this, our site can serve to confuse, rather than clarify. However, I feel strongly that a surfeit of information is better than none at all. We must try to take a balanced view from the wealth of information presented.
In this case, if you are an average balanced couple who have little difficulty in enjoying their holiday hotel, and assuming you have chosen a hotel of similar category/price, then I am confident that you will have a wonderful holiday. It is all largely a matter of expectations. Read everything on this site and elsewhere and go with an open mind.
You say that you are looking for a completely luxurious and relaxing break. And rightly so! However, one man’s luxury could be another man’s slum. It’s all relative. Do not go expecting it to be the Sandy Lane in Barbados (mind you, I only stayed there once and HATED it – which just goes to prove the point). I think most people would agree that the LGC is a good example of hotels in its category.
The water shortage has been a major problem to EVERY hotel on Tobago the last few months. The situation is hopefully easing now that the rains (mainly night) have arrived. Maybe the LGC handled the shortage badly, but I have to say that feedback confidently allows me to say that more visitors leave swearing to return than go away wishing they had tried somewhere else. Please do not worry; I am sure you will have a great trip. Don’t forget to let us know how you get on.

Hi Nigel, we have just returned from our honeymoon at LGC, we also arrived on 19th July for 2 weeks, so you must have been there while we were!
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay and thought the hotel and spa were exellent. The hotel was clean and the staff friendly and helpful, although some days the service in the restaurant at dinner was slow.
The place was very relaxing, but if you wanted full blown entertainment, this was not the place to go.
We enjoyed it for the peace and quiet and always found there was plenty to do if you were more active.
We shall certainly return one day, if only to see the hotel's cat and her kittens.
Lorraine Cockerell.
