We are holidaying in Tobago for 2 weeks from 7th August (Very excited!) We are staying at the Toucan Inn and were wondering what ampage they use i.e what sort of travel plug will we need? Weather seems a little worrying, don' think a tan will be happening this holiday, but we are still looking forward to our first visit to the Island. Have been using this website since we booked and have found it to be full of interesting and invaluable information, many thanks for that!

Hi Margaret

Welcome aboard!

Full details of our the electricity supply and plug is provided at menu: Odds & Sods > Practicalities > Electricity. However, in brief, you will need a standard 2-pin-flat (American) plug adapter. UK 240v electrical appliances may not operate with the 110 volt current provided at the hotel. In practise, things like hair dryers, curlers, shavers may work but just not run as hot.

Hi Margaret

I want to add some info to Steves about the voltage in Tobago.

They are using 110V 60hz with US-type plug. Some electric units do work both on 110V and 230V but as Steve say, it will work slow if there isn´t a switch between 230V and 110V.

An other thing you have to check, the voltage in Europe is 50Hz and in Tobago it´s 60Hz, are your units able to run on both 50Hz and 60Hz?
Have a look at the data sign on your units and check that, because a unit made for 50Hz only might be destroyed when it´s connected to a voltage on 60Hz.

It´s look like you will have some showers but I´m sure that you will have some sun i between too.
Have a nice holyday.
Ronald

Hi Margaret
I don't know what electrical items you are planning to use, I have only ever taken hair straighteners (wouldn't bother again, humidity sent my hair curly within 10 mins of leaving apartment!), battery chargers and an ipod dock, they all worked fine. We just have a couple of the standard multi-purpose travel plugs.
Don't worry you will still tan, if it's raining go for a swim! you still tan in the water and you can't get any wetter!
Have a great holiday and don't forget to tell us all aboput it when you get back.

Linda

Hi Margaret

To be honest with you, I haven't heard of any regular "trouble" or reasons to be unduly concerned about safety at Sunday School. Yes, pickpockets can be a problem as anywhere that large crowds of people congregate, particularly after dark. Yes, drug-dealers (mainly cannabis) are everywhere - and many doubling their take by promptly turning in the buyer to the undercover drugs officers who are lurking around on constant lookout. Yes, approaches from local guys offering their services to ladies. Other than this, it's not somewhere that I feel a special warning is warranted. Common sense rules. Don't get persuaded to wander off into unlit areas of the beach or village with someone you don't know. Those who do, frankly deserve everything they get.

Have a great trip and be sure to let us know how you get on.

Thanks once again for info. This is a great site with so much information, but too much to print off to take with us and we don't want to miss a thing. Is there a guide/tourist book that has similar information in it that you could reccommend for us to buy? We are staying in Crown Point and are interested in sightseeing, beaches, places to visit etc. We are leaving in 2 hours...I know I've left it rather late!
Thanks once again

A bit late for Margaret, however there are internet cafes in the Crown Point area where she, or anyone else could check in on my tobago if they want. just show that the My tobago book would be a good idea though, how's it coming on?
