Hi. I was wondering how difficult it might be to stay for, say, 6 months or more per year? Can you extend a 3-month visa to 6? Do you have to leave the country briefly every 3 or 6 months and then are you allowed back in?

Thanks!

Michael, in response to your message posted June 21st. I believe that as a British Citizen if you travel on the one month working permit that you may not return to Tobago within a 12 month period. Unless your employer requests to extend your stay, although I understand this can only be arranged locally. I am unsure if this is true in your case travelling from the US. However I would appreciate if you could advise me if you have a found a solution to this problem by way of extending the working visa prior to departure. Or indeed if anyone has any advise that they would be willing to share. Thank you.

Hi Michael
this subject is a bit tricky. But usually once you arrive and can present a local address (e.g. guesthouse, hotel) and a return ticket to your home country, immigration will stamp your passport for at least the time you intend to stay. If you definitely have a return ticket that is valid for 6 months and can show that you can "afford" to stay for that period of time (e.g. cash, Trav. checks, credit cards) you should not have any problems. If you intend to stay longer, I would recommend to enquire with the Trinidad and Tobago embassy or consulate in your country just to be safe.
Hope this helps
