Hi,
Could anyone please advise whether it is customary to leave daily tips in your room for maid as in the US? We're staying at the Rex Turtle Beach.
Thanks for any advice.

Hi Jacqui
Yes please leave the maid a tip they will keep your room spotless and are also very helpful. There wages are very poor so every little helps.

Hi Jacqui
Sorry to disagree John, but most definitely NO! Tobagonians are very proud people and do not like to feel that they are being ‘bought’. The service and manner of 99% of the population will not be influenced by tipping. Yes, economic considerations mean that the tips are an essential part of the domestic budget (particularly as they are only earning around 80p an hour), but simply treat them with the friendliness and courtesy they deserve, and then leave an appropriate gratuity at the end of your stay. Do not embarrass them – be discreet.

No problem. Thought you weren't speaking to me since you tried to steal that trip to Tobago as a porter
