Dear friends,

I will arrive in Tobago next week and I will need a map with roads and little ways in order to visit the forest.
Do you know where I can buy a good map of the island ? If possible around Crown Point and the airport.

Thank you

Yannick

Hi

There´s free tourists maps before the passport control and also at the Tourist Information Office, but these maps doesn´t always show everything correct.

Why not look for a good map at home before you go. I´m walking a lot so I wanted a good map so I bough one at home.
This map is printed in Germany but it it´s sold in many countries in Europe. The maps ISBN-number is: ISBN 9-8123-4911-1.

You have the same map here but you cant walk/drive with an Internet map.

Hi MIchael

The Swedish shop had some 4-5 different maps of Trinidfad & Tobago, the one I bought is laminated, but very easy to handle, and strong as water can´t destroy the map.

The scale is 1:7 855 000 for Lesser Antilles, 1:281 000 for Trinidad, 1:22 000 for Port of Spain, 1:140 000 for Tobago, 1:5 600 for Scarborough.

This is the information printed inside the map.

Manufactured by:
Maps: 2002 Berndtson & Berndtson GmbH, Furtsenfeldbruck, Germany
Text: 2002 APA Publications GmbH & Com Verlag KG, Singapore Branch, Singapore

Distribution in UK & Ireland:
GeoCenter International Ltd
The Viables Centre, Harrow Way
Basingstoke
Hans RG22 4BJ
Fax: +44-1256-817 988

As it is printed in Germany, it should be avaiable somewhere, if it´s not sold out of course..

Hi

Thank you very much for this information. But do you know if this map is sold in Tobago, as I won't have enough time to buy it before coming ?

Hi Yannick

No, I have never seen a good map for sale in Tobago so far, but I haven´t been lokking for it for the past 3-4 years. I don´t know if the new mall in Lowlands has good maps for sale.

In Port of Spain I found large, very good maps over Trinidad, and I´ve seen such a good map for Tobago inside an office, but never been able to find it in any shop.

The newest tourist road maps does shows all roads incl. the new road up to Charlotteville on the Caribbean side, and mostly of the big roads are OK. But here and there the junctions are wrong, the names of the roads are also wrong on some places. Mostly it´s the area on the Caribbean side from Arnos Vale and up via Golden Lane. You can use the maps if you know that all junctions aren´t correct everywhere.

Yannick, have a look at http://map.environmenttobago.net ,most var hire now issue this map TT$6,it is very good.I am afraid there are no small roads in the forest just walking trails, and always take a guide.

Yannick, I have used the free maps of Tobago, which seem to be available everywhere, for the past five years and never had a problem finding my way around, my advice would be not to bother hunting out a perfect map. Sometimes you find hidden gems by straying slightly off the beaten path anyway.

Enjoy your hols
Linda

Or, if You fell like exploring, You could always use the old british survey map from the 60-s. I always use it for explorations and it is quite fun to search for old ruins with it. Easily bought on the net and VERY detailed. Surprisingly few changes have been made and a surprising number of old trails remain.
