Good Evening. Where is the best place to purchase a cell phone after arriving at the airport? I'm assuming we will have to go to Scarborough? We have just discovered that our recently purchased phone marketed as an "international phone" will not work in Tobago and Trinidad. We are arriving very soon on March 18. Help! Kathi B

Hi Kathi,
There is a B-Mobile phone shop opposite the airport where i am sure you will be able to buy a phone; i have purchased phone top up there. The beauty of having a Tobago phone is the calls will cost you less.
Enjoy your stay, wish we were there.

Hi Kathy
As they say, you can by a cellphone into a small shop nearby the airport, telephone cards can be bought in the papershop at the airport.
Earlier the M-Mobile was the one but since some year the Digicel seems to be working better. I bought a medium priced Digicel and that one is working very well for me.
However, there are some areas higher up in Tobago where the cell phones doesn´t work so well all the time, but mostly it´s OK.

if you have an unlocked tri-band cell phone you might not have to purchase one. a local top up sim card might do...

I paid $200 TT to have my home cell unlocked but it is nice not having to learn a new device. I have the sim card to put back in and recharge each visit now.

the top up sim card number only satys valid for a certain time. the dalek tells you how ling that is, when you top up again it extends automatically (thats why most people who purchase a phone her leave it with someone to top up now and then). check before you leave home if your phone might be unlocked already because you used it long anough at home. most of them unlock after a certain time...

PS: but if that is too much trouble, they most of the time have some cheap offer at b mobile for 100-200TT for a simple nokia phone, they are dead easy to handle...we lend them to our guests and so far none had trouble using them.
have a great time
