Hello Everyone,
I have read in the T&T newspapers this morning that there are two american women that are missing in Tobago. This un-nerving news makes me uncomfortable because I am traveling to Tobago in 2 weeks with another woman and we were hoping to feel safe. Having traveled to Tobago before I am familiar with how to conduct myself. Can anyone update me on the status of this news???

The news reports that I have seen do not specify if they have been reported missing in Trinidad or Tobago.
More information would help.

Trinidad & Tobago Express wrote:THE UNITED STATES State Department is looking into the disappearance of two American college students who were vacationing in Trinidad and Tobago, according to a news report last night from CNN.
Local sources confirmed the search for at least one American woman who was last seen in Tobago. Authorities identified the missing woman as 21-year-old Sophia Roy, an African-American with curly hair, about five feet, nine inches tall and about 120 pounds.
The last known sighting of one of the students was in Tobago. That does not mean she has gone MISSING in Tobago. In fact, it is highly unlikely. One assumes that she will have returned to Trinidad before returning home. Once in Trindad, it is anybody's guess what might have happened. At the moment, there is no indication that the second of the students even visited Tobago, so it is all a bit of a mystery.
I will post news as and when I receive any but frankly suspect that this is a non-issue.

Thanks guys,
My head immediately went to the worst case scenario. Thank you for pulling me back down to the realization that things may be fine after all. In one of the newspaper articles someone from Boston has reassured people that the women have contacted home and are safe. Lets hope this is the truth.
I already had to postpone my flight to Tobago due to high congestion with security on the day that I arrive. I have also been told by a Caribbean airline employee that I would be safest to stay in the airport overnight and not leave the airport. My concerns are hightened.
Looking forward to a rum punch.

I remember another similar case a few years back. Can't remember whether it hit the forum or not, but very similar situation: a female student from the USA had gone missing after visiting T&T. She stayed at a small hotel in Tobago who confirmed she had checked-out. They understood she was returning to the States. She had flown to Trinidad then fallen for the charms of someone at POS airport. She went off with him for a couple of weeks, madly in love and her head so far up in the clouds that she never thought to notify her friends and family back home. She eventually returned home wondering what all the fuss was about. The worst thing is that the news that these idiots return home never hits the press because a love-sick idiot is seldom newsworthy.

Steve is correct about what he write, some aren´t using their brains as they should.
If you read the Trinidad Internet Express you will find the answer, heres the main line.
"Students found with male friend
Both of them were found "safe and sound" inside a house in Santa Cruz on Thursday nighht, a source inside the Anti-kidnapping Squad revealed yesterday".
According to the paper, they were both expected to leave Trinidad Mars 29, instead they returned from Tobago Mars 30 together with a male they met in Tobago, they never contacted their fa,mily or the airline. The house belongs to the males family.
My opinion is, when peoples behavie in such a stupied way, they should be charged and have to pay as T&T Forces had to search for them, and the event also very easy scare others who only hear something about it or only read "two women missed in T&T.
