We stayed at Castara Retreats for 3 nights in the course of our Tobago vacation in April 2009.

We need to say it straight away: It was perfect and hard to beat! Castara Retreats is one of the most wonderful places we have ever been to.

There are various things that make Castara Retreats special. First of all the small fishing village of Castara in our opinion is the most lovely place on the whole island, people there are very friendly and warm and as a guest you feel personally welcome by the whole village.
Secondly Porridge and Jeanelle, who are running Castara Retreats are the perfect care takers. They both have a very natural and friendly way of treating each guest as if he were the only or most important person currently staying at their place. They find solutions for everything and offer you to participate in trips but in a way that you never feel obliged.
And last but not least the appartments (we stayed in Rainforest) are simply wonderful. For us this kind of open living was a completely new experience, being in the fresh air for 24h a day, cooking in our own open kitchen with a view to the sea and waking up by a tender sea breeze or some birds. We loved the place so much that at times we didn't want to leave the appartment any more. You have the perfect climate there at each time of the day and the lovely view to the village and the beach makes you feel as if you were in the middle of everything while being very private on your own balcony. Cooking our own fish (which we bought freshly from the fishermen's cooperative in the afternoon) with some fresh bread (baked by the women of Castara) while watching the sunset was one of the best experiences ever. Thanks to the lovely people and the wonderful place we had a perfect stay at Castara Retreats.
