myTobago – your questions, review and comment about Tobago

Since 1999 we have only missed our three week trip to the Ambassadors house at Windy Edge twice and so we suppose that it goes almost without saying that we are both completely enchanted not only by Tobago but by The Ambassadors house as well. Visitors for the first time will find a wonderful old villa that is quite frankly a little frayed around the edges, but then when you look around the island as we have over the years it is all pretty much the same. you will though find a villa that is set in the most beautiful surroundings on top of a hill with views to the Carribean one way and the Atlantic the other, you will find a villa that is comfortable and airy with an ability to open up sliding doors all around the house to let those cooling breezes do their work. as details elsewhere will tell you the villa is set in about two and a half acres of lush green gardens with all sorts of plants and wildlife to enjoy, for example this year we spotted 38 different types of bird among which were 8 different types of humming birds flitting around and posing for the cameras. you will need a car of course, although taxis are reliable and cheap, but we have just found that a car gives you more flexibility and the villa being sited fairly central in the island no where is too far to travel.there is a great selection of restaurants within a half hour drive and several much less, two really good golf courses only 20 minutes drive and so in our view if you do not actually wish or need to be right in the middle of the main hotel/resort area this villa is just perfectly sited.No report for this villa would be complete without mention of the House Keeper Lesleyann, she is irrepressible, intelligent, humerous and a Great cook, she will shop for you and cook for you if required and we found this year much more enjoyment in having her cook for us than in revisiting the restaurants where we have been many times before.

In summary then, you can if you wish pay much more money and have all the chrome and mod cons of a modern villa, you can if you wish stay in one of the more conjested areas full of tourists, you will not we assure you find a more comfortable welcoming place to spend your hard earned holiday in the tropics... frayed edges not with standing!

In reply to this very accurate review from Les, who with Sandra has visited Ambassador's House many times over the years, I would say that we took note of his comment '......a wonderful old villa that is quite frankly a little frayed around the edges...' Since then the house has been completely re-painted throughout and an extra bedroom renovated, so thank you Les, for the constructive criticism, and hope to see you there next year!
