I'll be travelling in Tobago in November/December and was wondering if anyone had words of wisdom for a woman travelling alone.

I'll be staying in various spots throughout the island (Bucco, Castara, Charlotteville), plan on attending Sunday School at least once, hoping to go on a few rainforest tours, over to Little Tobago, spending a lot of time lying around on the beach, snorkeling, etc....And I'll be renting a car for my entire trip.

3 months to go until I leave!

Hi Jo-Anne

I get a strong sense that any words I can offer would be wasted. You seem to be well sorted and I have no wish to be patronising. The only safeguards you need observe for Tobago are absolutely identical to those you would observe in BC and are plain, simple, commonsense.

If it's your first trip to Tobago, I would strongly recommend taking a full island tour with an establish guide, simply to get your bearings and a better understanding of the layout and geography of the island, before setting out on your own.

It might be worth just running through the various topics in our Health & Security forum for issues concerning security, just to reinforce things, but like I say - it's plain commonsense what you should, and shouldn't, do.

Hi Jo-Anne

Myself, my wife and a few other Brits are arriving 27th Nov to 16th Dec. Staying first week Sandy Point ,then near Mt Irvine Beach- Villa Paradise Found. See Steve's review. You may prefer to be alone, but any problems or you feel like dropping in to meet up, there will be some very English company awaiting you.
Have a great trip. ps we will be doing many of the tours etc as well. Our first trip.
Regards
James

Hey there James,

Amazingly nice of you to offer the company of yourself and your friends!

I just might take up on the offer of some "very English company" - I love how you worded that :D

Take care.

Jo-Anne

Hi Jo-Anne

Thanks for the reply. Glad you liked the very english bit, however we have a couple of young ladies from Wales with us , who may let the side down.
Steve's great website has really whetted our appetites and we are counting the days down. As I said we will definitely be doing some tours, and I will be happy to give you some contact numbers nearer the time if you feel like hooking up.
It is only proper and correct that we should offer assistance to our commonwealth cousins.

Keep counting the days down
Kind regards
James

Dear James

You may feel that the welsh women let the side down but I can assure you that we kept our end up and the welsh flag flying.

As single women travelling to tobago on our first trip at no time did we feel intimidated or in danger, quite to the contrary we found everyone helpful and courteous and have made many friends on this beautiful island.

Because of the wonderful welcome we received from everyone we encountered we are returning to tobago in 6 weeks.
