I’ve sadly just returned from spending two weeks in one of the studio apartments at Villa Carpe Diem. It was in a great location tucked far back enough to be quiet but you can still see all the action (or lack of it) going on down at the beach from the balcony. It was such a great spot to watch the varied sun sets over castara bay.

The rooms were really spacious with big doors to open up if you wanted a breeze. Still very hot but the fans in the rooms ensured a good night’s sleep. The bathrooms were pristine with nice powerful showers, which were well needed after a day in the sun. And the kitchen was really well equipped for cooking, it even had a blender for making smoothies.

Castara is a very chilled out place but there was also a lot to do if you felt more energetic. We managed to fit in a day scuba diving, a couple of boat trips and a trip to the argyle waterfalls. However if you fancy spending the morning having breakfast and admiring the view, followed by a gentle stroll down the beach (5 minutes) or to the nearby waterfall (10 minutes), which is the perfect way to cool down, then you can do that as well. I have to admit i spent quite a few days the latter way.

Castara Bay is essentially a fishing village so i hadn’t envisaged it as a great place for making friends more as somewhere my friend and me could wander round without bumping into a soul, except when the fisherman came in at 3. Well I was wrong. Within a couple of days we had a regular crowd of other holiday goers and locals to chat to down at one of the rum shacks.

However that was just on quiet nights, on jump up Friday you had pretty much the whole village down at shirma’s bar dancing in the street. We were in luck with a local village holding a fisherman’s fete whilst we were there. For starters it was on a gorgeous beach, secondly there was non-stop entertainment from tug of war to big belly competitions and thirdly there was a bar that didn’t sell rum by the glass but by the bottle- sounds like my kinda party.

All in all I would thoroughly recommend a stay at villa carpe diem and castara in general as a holiday destination.
