I have just painstakingly worked out that it would take me approximately 10 weeks, 2 days, 13 hours and 6 minutes to cover the 4,354 miles to Tobago if I could walk on water without sleeping at all ... but I think the last 6 minutes would be quite hard

How about all you other Tobago Nuts in various other parts of the world?

You need to get out more.

A VERY long walk indeed, Paul. But as you soon will be in Tobago, you could start exercising long-walking.

The longest walk I´ve made so far is Crown Point - Castara on the Caribbean side, and Scarborough - Roxborough on the Atlantic side.
Good walking and you meet peoples in a different way, and if you get too thirsty, local bars exists.

You have helped me realise that if I walked straight to Castara instead of Crown Point I could cut my journey by about 8 miles.

So that shortens the journey to 10 weeks, 1 day, 17 hours and 6 minutes

Paul, when was it you were next planning to be in Tobago? Just need to make a note to myself.

Well Steve, according to my calculations, if I leave the UK on the 2nd December 2009 I should get there on the 11th February 2010 ... give or take a day.

I will be a bit tired though so would be great to meet up around the 14th Feb once I have had a rest

walking to Tobago is not a real nice idea when you come from Trinidad.
If i were to leave home in Trincity, walking along the eastern main road, i may make it through Arouca. Barely.
But just after that is Dhabadie, where i would be robbed of my wallet and cell phone, and provided the bandits
let me live, i may even make it to Arima.
East of Arima, in the darkness of the eastern main road, another set of bandits would rob my back pack and sneakers,
which would leave me without any supplies and barefooted, which evidently makes it very uncomfortable to continue the journey.
You will understand, that walking from Trincity to Toco is just as impossible as walking on water

Trinis only walk from the house to the garage, and some of them around the Queen's Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain
between 4pm and 6pm, Monday to Friday, and call that exercise.

Actually Kevin ... that's another bright idea ... but unfortunately the timezones won't change over the period under consideration.

But you have made me think of another important factor ... Tobago will be 4 hours behind the UK so I will probably do it in 10 weeks, 1 day, 13 hours and 6 minutes.

Unfortunately and for the same reasons ... the return walk will take 10 weeks, 1 day, 21 hours and six minutes although with a stiff westerly wind behind me it may take an hour or 2 off that prediction.

I have also considered the fact that Steve Wooler is so desperate to meet me so I have factored in the possibility of having 6 hours sleep every day so that I am fine and dandy on my arrival and that adds another 18 days to the arduous journey ... so that means that I have to leave the UK this Saturday (14th November)

It's becoming more complicated than I thought.

Firstly, I have just realised that I would have to circumnavigate the Canary Islands and, secondly, Barbados is also in the way ... so that will add a couple of hours to the journey.

I wouldn't mind stopping at Crane Beach for a breather though

Good to see that insanity is still running rampant in the forum. I was getting worried as it seemed as if we were becoming too serious for a while. Thank you Paul. I could accomplish this feat with a minimal amount of levitation over water but the trek thru the U.S., Mexico, Central America and Columbia to get to Venezuela sort of offsets any savings in time.

I also notice that none of the Venusians/Venetians (or whatever the correct term is for those of the other persuasion) have joined in. Perhaps this thread will become a "Men's Only" version of the Waffle

Have you actually worked out how far it is via land and compared it to the direct route?

I like David's idea of walking up and down the aisle for 10 hours, but what about when the 'seat belt' sign is on?

Have you noticed that the Captain always seems to expect turbulence just before a meal is served. It never bodes well for what's about to be served (although I have to say I always found the Asian Vegetarian meals served on Virgin more than acceptable). As long as they remember that's what you ordered!
