Dear All,
If any of you fellow fisher-folk could identify the fish in the picture, I would be most grateful.

Many thanks,
Neil Roberts.

Hi Neil,

Did you catch it on a recent trip? I never caught one myself but saw some in action being hauled in by other fisherman. Really good fighters, they say.

Spot on with the ID there Robert.

Ladyfish are a relative of tarpon and herring.
Like tarpon they tend to leap around all over the place and often throw the hook.

Nice fish Neil.
I haven't caught a ladyfish from Tobago in several years.

Cheers
Steve

Dear Robert and Steve,
Robert: Yes, we came back onthe 11th Feb having been out there for two weeks. It was caught on our last afternoon off Castara beach on a small fish bait just behind the surf, bass style. Nothing fancy at all.

Steve: your note describes the situation perfectly: I hooked five, they all came clear out of the water almost instantly, one I landed, one stayed on for a couple of minutes before coming adrift and the other three shed the hook as they jumped! How I laughed!! I've already started working on what hooks to take next trip rather than the odds and sods which were in the box this time. Can't wait!

Thanks both,

Neil.
