New Bloody Bay beach facilities

Hi All,
Some one mentioned in a previous post that the Bloody Bay facilities were finally done and to be open in Feb. We were up last weekend (first of March) and they are very nice looking, but not open. Security guard had no idea when they would be open. There are three building, one will be a restaurant/bar, another a large bathroom/change and a lifeguard building??
Beach is mostly sand and appears to not drop off too quickly. Will be quite a change for the area when it does open. In the meanwhile, if you have driven up, stop at the Sunshine cafe on the way in or out. Sunshine is a very friendly lady who is happy to give you a drink or lunch at a reasonable price. We did not have lunch (no pressure to do so), cannot comment. Cheers, Carol

Good to hear that the Sunshine is open again ... it was closed when I went in January 2009.

Debby and I just returned from 2 weeks at Coasting just above the beach at Bloody Bay, starting Easter weekend. The facilities are still not open and there seems to be no date for the opening. In fact there was still some construction going on associated with the drainage along the road to the beach. However the buildings are of strikingly beautiful design compared to any other beach facilities I have ever seen in Tobago. Nevertheless the beach is used more by the local fishermen than by bathers. The west end of the beach is pure sand as far out as I could still touch bottom at low tide. I did not remember the beach as being this sandy.
Paul, I should add that Debby and I did find our way to Dead Bay. Amazing beach - but ferocious surf. We went twice at low tide. Fantastic body surfing - best I can remember. I did get rolled under by one of the biggies but since the bottom is pure sand I came up with sanded shoulders instead of bloody shoulders. In fact, because of the soft sand I had sand in my hair, sand in my ears, sand everywhere by the time we left. Debby didn't go in other than to get her toes wet. At high tide there would be virtually no beach and the undertow would probably be heavy. Advise you try it at low tide. Surf is easily twice the size at Bloody Bay, which is a shock, since the two beaches are essentially side by side. The beach can be accessed from the Bloody Bay Chapel or the old coast road from Parlatuvier. The climb/descent from the Bloody Bay side is shorter but truly demanding, especially if at all wet. The climb on the other side is twice the height but easier although still a good workout.

Hi All,
An update on the Bloody Bay facilities. We were up on Sat (I think the only place it was not raining in Tobago); the change room/bathrooms are now open with security guard and cashier. We did briefly see a life guard; the beach was empty a little rough for swimming. The bar/restaurant building is still closed and I really doubt anyone is going to be interested it opening up for a few people wandering by. It's really a beautiful facility. I have mixed feelings if I want to promote it; it would be a shame if it gets overrun like Englishmen's Bay. But , if you are doing a island tour, stop and check out. You can always get something to eat and drink at Sunshine's up the road. She was open when we were there on Sat.
Cheers, Carol
