I just returned from a 10 day visit. This site was a valuable resource prior to my visit - but what I experienced was somewhat different from the info I had read. Some general points: the people were very nice on the whole. I saw three mosquitos the whole trip. The rural areas are the best, the city areas/tourist areas are generaly run down - long in the tooth, hucksters on every inch of every cornner and sidewalk. One exception is Pigion Point near the airport - beautiful! There are only a few supermarkets ( near airport) stop and shop when you arrive. The roads were fun to drive - conditions not bad. Get used to everyone carrying a machete - advise you purchase or borrow one. I saw and experienced no crime - but did not feel comfortable - many men are agrresively lude towards women. I'm told it is cultural - and they are not serious -don't count on it. High points were snorkeling @ Little Tobago (Frank's), driving the back road(s) - beautiful views. The Island is second world at best and this helps give it it's charm. Charoletteville ( best Roti) , Speyside and Bloody Bay are worth visiting. A must is to use Yes Tourisum (as advised on this site) Pruchase you air bridge tickets from them as well as your car rental ( there was no difference in cost vs. purchasing direct) I had a problem with my return ticket to Port of Spain and almost missed my connecting flight (Caribbean Airlines - the people are sweet but the inefficiency and buracracy is stunning) Called Yes, they kicked ass and I had my ticket in time to get my connecting flight. Used Sheppy for my car rental - had a minor issue on arrival but Sheppy took care of it - great customer service. Where I stayed, I will not say as it is so great I don't want it spoiled by an enslaught of tourists. Overall a great experience, perfect weather every day, great people; I can't wait to return!
