Hello,
We are heading back to Tobago for the 5th visit this December/January. This year, however, we need to spend a night in Trinidad. I am wondering if anybody could recommend a resonably priced place to stay. We will be arriving in the evening and departing early the next morning so don't need anything fancy. Ideally we would like to stay at a place that has an airport shuttle and is near a local restaraunt (that serves beer:).
Thanks in advance.
We would also appreciate hearing about places to avoid.
Dianne

Dianne,

Both places are only minutes away from Piarco Airport and provide shuttle service.
I do not recommend to take a drink in a "local restaurant" in the vincinity of the airport. If you find any at all,
you should not go there at all. I don't.
Take your sundowner at the hotel bar.
You may find "Bel Air" Hotel in the internet. That one is an old run-down place which has seen much better times.
Greetings from Trinidad,
Andy

I last stayed at the Bel Air Hotel in 1957 - yes, 53 years ago (I was only a mere lad) - and it was run down and in need of TLC even back then. I've passed it many times since and been amazed at the lack of change over the years.

Hi-A great accommodation is Leo's Place. He runs a B&B about 5 min. from the airport. He'll provide shuttle service to and from. His house is very clean in a nice neighborhood. If you're coming into Trinidad in the late afternoon with a flight out the next morning, you can walk to the Trin-City Mall (6-7 min.) & eat over there for dinner. He'll provide a great breakfast in the morning. He & his wife, Cadalia, are lovely people! Find his listing under Flights>Air Bridge>Accommodations. There's an email address & phone number. Now that Cadalia is retired, the email response is quite quick!!

Joanne,
i don't know where Leo's place is, but i live in Trincity and do not recommend to walk anywhere after
dark. Better take a car. That is what most of us do here for security reasons.
The shops at Trincity Mall close at 7 pm Monday to Friday except for 3 or 4 restaurants upstairs. I can recommend "J Malone's" and "Bootleggers" for dinner and drinks.
Steve, i can't believe Bel Air was already in that state in 1957

but it certainly is since 1997, when i first
visited the place. Since then i only drive by on my way to AMERIJET or JSL cargo warehouses... they look better than Bel Air ...
