I am Canadian born and live in Vancouver, British Columbia. My mom and I came to visit and our Trinidadian family and treated them to four days at the Naturalist. We occupied the Whale and Dolphin rooms. There were nine of us. Castara is one of many remote Carribbean towns. The beach is beautiful, the town has decent shopping for food and supplies, there are a couple cafes/resturants that I never tried(with one Trini Mom and two Trini aunties there is really no need to eat out)

Do not come here unless you have an appreciation or an open mind for the Carribbean, it's people, the culture, and how difficult it is running a resort on a small Carribbean island 45 minutes from the ferry in the middle of well...a small Carribean island

The rooms are clean, The two rooms on the upper floor is what you really want, but if you are on a budget the lower rooms are perfectly fine.

Next time, I will stay somewhere else. I like experiencing other places to stay.

I highly recommend checking out Castara and the surronding towns for some great snorkling!!

For female tourists:

If you are a woman, particularly a foreign woman prepare to be hit on ALOT. You would have experienced this in Trini, but being on the beach draws 1000x the men. ESPECIALLY if you have no man, and you are foreign. I am Canadian Trini/european and I was regualarly proposed marriage too.

Men in Tobago are hot! But never ever ever ever ever have sex without protection and be extremely aware that your safety might be in jeopardy, especially at night. So be smart! dont use drugs, dont buy drugs (you WILL face prison and go to Trini jail--there are tons of Caucasian women there!), dont go off with any guys you dont know! Dont get too wasted--this is not a safe place to get wasted and lose inhibitions (ahh there is no real place like that). Watch thr perpetual girfriend who drinks too much and sleeps with anyone. Tobago has a high HIV rate. Be smart! All the men are sweet talking--let em, thats the nice thing about Carribean men, but dont risk your health!
