Type "rum drink" into google and you get thousands of recipies, but what are the common favorites we should
try when we are there?

I wasn't sure what you meant so we googled it. 1919 is a cool little bottle of 8 yr old rum Origin Trinidad and Tobago. What a perfect choice. Never tried it with coconut water, that will go on my "must try" list.
I wonder if customs would let us take a bottle home with us.

We carry 6 bottles (per person) of 1919 home every time! Makes a fantastic gift! Import rules vary everywhere.
Glad to see that you are feeling better David!

Been doing some research and since I havent left the country on a vacation for over 30 years I'm a total novice at this. According to the Gov't of Canada website, we need to fill out a special declaration form and we are allowed 1.14L of Rum (each i presume) So those little bottles look like around 500ml, I'm hoping its ok to bring 2 bottles per person back.

They are 750ml. And they travel very well; square and boxed. You will probably be given the form on your return flight.

Richardus,
there is a new trinidadian rum on the market. Hugh and David did not get a chance to taste that one yet due to their
absence from the country
I personally didn't like trinidadian rum ever since and was consuming rum from Guyana instead (XM, El Dorado etc.)
But now our biggest rum distillery reacted.
You must try Angoustura "Single Barrel Reserve", on the rocks or with a bit of club soda. Don't spoil it with Coca Cola
or other sweet mixers.
As for rum cocktails, talk to your bar tender. Most of them are proud to have their own receipes. Beware of the amount
of alcohol those guys put in the drink

My wife and I are partial to colourful fancy drinks rather than "neat" or with a bit of club soda, so we are looking forward to the bartender's suggestions! It is refreshing to see if they are generous with their supply of rum in the drink as we certainly are more used to bartenders using an eye dropper to put booze in the drinks here in Ontario!
