Need help with making avatar!

We have photoshop and have tried and tried and tried to submit an avatar for the forum with no luck.

Requirements: Max size 85x85 pixels and no bigger than 7.5k

I've looked at Andy's and Gisele's Avatars and made pics identical to their stats and they come up
around 20k. The smallest, if I go half the resolution of Andy's and half the size comes up to over 8k
and gets rejected! If I go any smaller the pic becomes so small that it is unrecognizable.

How did you make a picture that large (Andy's is 60x83 at 72 resoloution and comes up as 2k) , of that resolution and have it only come up as 2k? Were pulling our hair out trying to make avatar pics tiny enough for this forum!

Hi

An 85x85px JPEG image will typically be 2-5kb, depending upon the compression used when generating the file. So, the limit of 7.5Kb is way over what is needed. Our problem is that it isn't fair to slow down the speed of page load for every reader of the forum for the sake of avatar photos that are much larger than they need to be because they haven't been resized efficiently.

If you email me the photo you'd like to use, I'll prepare and upload the avatar for you.

Why thank you Steve, I was hoping you'd offer :)

We put varous photos in photoshop and even resized and set the resoloution to exactly the same specs as your very own avatar with no luck. Must be something we are doing wrong, we just cannot get the photo small enough.

Maybe this one you can resize to make it work?
