Coco Reef 29/11-6/12

Just back from a mixed week in Tobago - wonderful island, lousy weather! Mixed experience, too, at Coco Reef. We had booked a one-bedroom suite and requested one on the first floor. We were shown to Room 135 - a dark and depressing room, with a small lounge area, plus a minute triangular balcony, overlooked by similar small balconies on either side (set in the right-angle of two wings of the hotel). Not a good start after an 11 hour flight. However, we were moved the next day to 253 (already reviewed here) which was excellent, even though we had been promised it would be ready by 2 and didn't get into it until 4 - a waste of precious time when we only had a week.
Our room was looked after and cleaned wonderfully. We asked for a kettle (several times) and eventually they provided not only a kettle but all the necessary for making tea and coffee for the whole week - a real bonus for us.
Beach - excellent provided we were down there by 7 to claim our shady spot! The breakwater, while not exactly beautiful, enabled us to do some very safe and easy snorkelling. Definitely a plus.
Service - first class and very friendly. Management only seemed to respond when one moved from a polite request to getting angry.
Meals - we were just b&b and the breakfasts were excellent. Had a few lunches in Baccanals - OK. Only one dinner in Tamaras which we found disappointing but we were definitely in the minority - most people seemed very happy with the food. (Opinions about other restaurants elsewhere.)
We got the impression that there were quite a few complaints about maintenance and rooms - this may have been exacerbated by Enormous amounts of rain which could make guests more easily annoyed by small things! The drive got seriously flooded on several occasions and the roof in the lobby leaked!
Overall, 7 out of 10, I guess. We'd certainly return to beautiful Tobago, but not Coco Reef - too many other beautiful places to go and see.
