Hi!
We're going to stay two weeks in Castara but have a few questions you might be able to help us with.

Thanks to this great site we've learned that there are no ATM's in Castara. Does this mean it's easiest for us to bring cash and/or traveller's checks for the whole trip? Or perhaps we will be able to pay with credit card, VISA for instance, in the village?

Also, do you recommend getting a vaccination against Hepatitis A? We've read many guides, some recommends it and some don't - what's your experience?

And lastly, is there anywhere in Castara where you can hire bikes or a car?

Thanks for any helpfull tips!

Hello Gardener

Welcome aboard! :)

There is an ATM in Castara - however, it is not the most reliable device in the world and is regularly out of money, so can't be totally relied upon. Neither will many places take credit card - and you certainly won't be able to change traveller's cheques in the village. However, you are bound to be travelling down to the other end of the island at least once a week, even if only to do your grocery shopping and both main branches of PennySavers, the major supermarket, have reliable (for Tobago) ATM machines outside the store.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about Hepatitis A and don't believe that the risk is any greater than with any other destination.

There's nowhere in Castara to hire a bike (as far as I know) but there several places to hire a car. My personal recommendation would be Bruce Taylor (http://www.taylorstobagoautorental.com )

Hi Gardner,
There is an ATM in both Roxburgh (just South of Speyside) and one in Charlottville, so if you're going north for the day, you can replentish your TT's there. As for a bike -- forget it!! The roads are far too narrow & twisty for safe biking!! You wouldn't last a mile before being run off the road (or worse)!! Ancel George at the Naturalist Beach Resort also has good cars for hire. You're going to LOVE Castara!!

Thanks for your quick replies! We'll trust the ATM:s and the cars then :)
