Hi - I'm wondering if there is any possibility of seeing/hearing a live steel band?
We'll be on the island for a day only, a cruise stop.
That will be Saturday Dec. 03, 2011.
Ship is scheduled to stop from 8 am 'til 6 pm.
This would be a real treat for my husband!
Thanks, Grietje

Hi Grietje,
There will probably be a small steel band playing as you come out of the port building near where the taxi drivers will be waiting for you. If so, take a few minutes listening - it may be the only opportunity!
Unless anyone else knows of some event, I don't think that there will be much pan music at this time of the year.
Enjoy your day in Tobago. Come by plane next time and stay longer!

Grietje,
as you only come here from December 3rd, this will be the beginning of the next carnival season,
at least when it comes to the steel bands practicing for Panorama.
There are several first class steel bands on Tobago. Check your tour guide / taxi driver for information
about "RBTT Redemption Sound Setters", "Katzenjammers", "CARIB Dixieland" and "Buccooneers".
Steel bands typically practice their "Panorama tune" for weeks (before the competition begins) in their
"panyards", where you will have the opportunity to watch and listen. This is not a concert, though.
It is blood, sweat and tears "live" on the way to the right notes and sound.

Hi Andy - thank-you so much for your information. We will be sure to follow your advice and ask
a taxi driver to bring us to any of the 'panyards' you suggested.
I'm copying the information so we'll have it with us.
