We are staying at Castara for 12 days from 1st February and would like to be able to hire two body boards for that time. Is there anywhere nearby that hires boards? We are assuming that Castara is suitable for body boarding, does anyone know if it is or not?

Thanks

Hi Cathy

To be honest, I'm not sure whether you can hire them in Castara or not. I think Castara Bay will be perfectly suitable, but there's precious little in the way of facilities there yet. Of course you will soon be able to organise a (the) local taxi to run you down to Mt.Irvine where you will be able to hire them, so I'm sure you won't have a problem - you'll find that the locals will fall over backwards to get you organised.

If you need to know beforehand, I can only suggest that you contact Alibaba Tours in Castara - [email protected] - who I am sure will put your mind at ease.

Have a great holiday. We shall probably be visiting Castara during your stay, so if you see the bearded wonder (add 15 years, some grey and spectacles and the picture might do me justice), say Hi!

Hi Cathy

As at Feb 2003, there were 2 body boards in Castara ... they were mine and they both got smashed because the waves gave them a good pounding ... if the Moon is full the waves get big !!

So ... if you want them, buy them cheap in Uk, tape them together, take them with you, have a few days fun until they break ... don't take them with a view to bringing them back.

Tip ... the local Castara kids body surf ... my kids have been there for the last 2 years and have got the knack ... and so have I (sort of).

So ... forget the boards and, if you are happy return home with no nipples, try the body surf !!

I will be in Castara (at the Naturalist) from the 9th Feb and I will be taking another couple of cheapie boards ... reckon that's worth a Carib eh???

You will see us !!!

Enjoy

Last Sunday we hired bodyboards from a guy on the beach at Stone Haven Bay, outside Grafton and Grand Courlan Spa. The boards were 300 TT for an hour and well worth it as the surf was brilliant, totally recommend.

A belated reply to this post I know - but I've only just come across it.

The local kids use anything that floats for body boarding e.g old chunks of polystyrene packaging, driftwood planking and even each other at times.

Check out one of the last pictures in the photo gallery section under my name. These two lads ''borrowed'' these surf boards from the local fishermen, who use the boards to get out to their pirogues, which are moored up in the bay at Parlatuvier. There's usually a good break to the right of the peir here, as there often is at Englishman's Bay and other Leeward (Caribbean-side) beaches.

Cheers
