:the service in hotel was very poor. It was not unusual to arrive well in advance of the the end of breakfast and dinner 'shifts' to be told that there was no more food available!!!! It was also customery for bar staff to walk past you some three or four times, without bothering to enquire as to whether or not the reason you were standing at the bar was because you wanted a drink!
Management were less than impressive and in fact one stated that as their hotel is full 80% of the time this was an indication that all brits thought the service was good. For me, the service and quality of food was of an extremely poor standard when compared to nearby eatieries some in other hotels. I wish I had not gone all inclusive and by the fourth day of our seven day holiday my partner and I decided that the only way we would survive was if we ate out at other venues which we then did.
It could have been worse, we could have been there for a fortnight!

Hi
Assuming you booked your holiday with a tour operator, and assuming again that your brush with the managers gave you no satisfaction, did you complain to either the local tour operator and/or your package holiday company?
The reason some hotels get away with repeatedly poor service/standards is that most tourists (particulalry polite brits!) are reluctant to make a fuss. However, if what is offered in the brochures is not offered in reality then a complaint is justified and compensation is an available remedy.
Then we would see improvements in the hotels - once the tour operators give the hoteliers a warning kick up the backside.
Just my thoughts.

I stayed there in feb 2002, very few complaints, had a very enjoyable time. On booking in, there was no fridge or working telephone and both were fixed promptly.
We were not on all-inclusive and only ate there twice, the food was 'OK'.
Pity about the beach, which is no good for swimming, but there are very good beaches close by, and also its within walking distance of many restaurants.
Breakfast was OK but relatively expensive, maybe better to walk up to the airport and get it at one of the small restaurants nearby. BTW< dont let the fact is near the airpoirt put you off, we has no disturbance from there at all.
I would stay there again, unless what I read in these forums puts me off!

Hi all,
I have been reading alot of stuff about this place and I must admit Im a little worried! But trying to be optimistic.
The other half and I are going to Tobago in March to get married and have booked to stay at the Tropikist for the first two nights and the last night as it was close to the airport.
We only have room only and intend to use it as a base while staying in Crown point so I hope that we wont get any of the problems of the poor people who had to stay there for the duration of their holiday and had such a bad experience, but i shall post my experience here when we get back in April for what its worth.
Take care

Dear Sarah Jane, Im sure youll have a great time - dont worry. The hotel is perfect for a room only stay with plenty of excellent restaurants near by- Ru B Lous is a must, I could see it from our room door so could tell when it was busy or not!!! It is also very handy for the airport - in my opinion you couldnt have made a better choice. Happy holidays Nora
