Crown Point new name

With our booking for some winter sunshine and Carnival time imminent, I decided to get in the mood for flying by listening to live air traffic control from Trinidad.

I noticed Piarco controllers clearing aircraft to 'Robinson' This turns out to be the new name for Crown Point (since May 2011).

I look forward to being a smartypants and putting 'Robinson' as the point of arrival in T and T on my landing form. This will make a change from my usual practice of writing 'TTCP', along with 'EGKK' as the depature airfield, which has never raised an eyebrow from immigration officers. TAB is ok for luggage labels but not for purists like me!

Frank,

The Tobago airport has been renamed last year in honour of the former prime minister and president
A.N.R. Robinson, who is a Tobagonian, to
A.N.R. Robinson International Airport
The international 3-letter airport code remains "TAB".

Hi Andy

Thanks for the reply. The name change would have come as a surprise had I not stumbled upon it. It will be interesting to see how much it is in use locally.

It looks like the ICAO designator is still TTCP as well. Probably too complicated to change some of these things.

We booked today with Monarch. The price is down on last week so we thought we might not get seats at the last minute with only one flight a week. We got spoiled with Excel in the days of three half empty flights each week. 3 weeks to go, can't wait to get in the sea and lay around, all day long, in and out of the water.

I don't think anyone in Tobago cares what the airport is called. "Take me to the airport" is normally enough for a taxi driver! :D
