I just read in the Tobago news about the two British Nationals that were robbed in December of 2011. They were robbed and attacked. This concerns me since I will be traveling to Tobago for the 1st time in late Febuary. We will be staying in Castara, which I have read is a fairly safe area. I understand there is crime every where in the world. We gererally go to Antigua each year and Antigua has had it's share of problems as well. I can say I have always felt safe traveling in Antiuga. We always rent a car and drive every where, we walk the streets of the city of St. John in the day time and have never felt unsafe. I know where ever you are in the world you should be aware, stay cautious and secure your valuables. I will not let these current robberies stop my vacation plans but it does make me feel uneasy.

Hello Lilly

Welcome aboard. :)

I must admit that I know very little about the two incidents reported in Tobago News recently. Thank heavens nobody was injured! It's a horrible thing to say, but both happened over the New Year's holiday period when Trinis come over en masse to party and there is always a huge increase in 'incidents'. I know its easy to try and blame others, and from our perspective we couldn't care less whether the burglar was Tobagonian, Trinidadian, British, American or Martian - we all just want to know that we can holiday there safely and without aggravation. These incidents are such a shame because things had been jogging along nicely recently.

From your point of view, I am confident that you need have no concern. Castara is almost a different world.
