Coco Reef Resort - Reader Reports & Opinion

This was our fourth holiday at Coco Reef. Instead of our usual Virgin holiday package, we reduced costs considerably by booking through ‘Tropical Sky’ who use Monarch airlines. It was still possible to save on the overall cost despite upgrading to Monarch Premium (recommended) and a Deluxe Oceanview room.

The disadvantage of the outbound Monarch flight is that it is via Grenada which therefore adds to the travel time. You do not change planes – it’s just an intermediate stop for approx 1 hour. Otherwise, I was impressed with the Monarch flights and would have no qualms using them again.

The Coco Reef is still a great place to holiday. Many of the staff were new from our previous visits, but they were friendly and efficient. Beach service to the smaller section of beach at Pelican Point was not as frequent as I remembered, but that may have been due to the occupancy of the hotel which was considerably less than on our previous holidays. Beach loungers and parasols were therefore always available at any time of the day, which meant there was no problem finding somewhere to relax. Unfortunately, some of the guests were either quite rowdy with noisy children or - in my view - out of place on a beach, which is obviously something the hotel can do little about. You cannot choose who happens to be there at the same time! The hotel also hosted the TT Prime Minister and associated ministers / security for a few days which caused some disruption at meal times due to their numbers. At buffet, they would have given a swarm of locusts a run for their money! Food was generally very good and the restaurant service was always prompt and friendly. The weather was also good at the start of the dry season / tail end of the rainy season.

I have often read that returning guests are treated favourably and yes, the management do make an effort in that respect. So if this is going to be your first time there, you will just have to make it your first of many! Would we return to Coco Reef? A definite ‘Yes’

It is with due shame i write this review. I recently spent a weekend at the so called 5 star hotel with a my girlfriend and another couple. While the hotel was nice and the view exceptional, the service from some of the staff was beyond disappointing, especially after reading some of the reviews from other people on this site. I must say, this presents itself as racist, however the truth be told, "if yuh nuh white, u is nobody". It seemed to me that the only people who were warmly welcomed, especially in Tamara's restaurant, were white. This goes to say without a doubt, locals are not appreciated, are we not spending our money as well ?. One specific person to note is the woman who makes the eggs in the morning. She blatantly shows an attitude to me and my friends, she doesn't even ask for your plate, just grabs it, and hands it back to you. One morning when i went for eggs, she just ask me with rolling eyes and a terrible attitude "what", i said "excuse me", she said "what yuh want". As normal i just go with the flow and she made my eggs, dropped it in my plate and i said thanks, nothing came from her mouth. Also when we went for breakfast, we waited to be seated, no-one came, and we decided to take a seat on out own, a woman came up to us and said we cannot sit here that we had to wait, only to be re located to the same seat. I cannot even say that it was a racist thing, as my girlfriend and i are Indian, and we went with a black couple, and they pointed out that the service is terrible. I guess its just a situation where our own people prefer to treat foreigners, to be specific, white foreigners better !!...Truly a shame for a place that has so much more potential !!!.

We have resently returned from our 9th visit to this excellent hotel. Its best asset is undoubtly its friendly and helpful staff led by the boss Eric. Any resonable request will be ably met. The magnificent gardens and the wonderful lagoon are the epitome of the caribbean.Kenneth the chef and his hard working team continue to produce delicious and imaginitive food each day. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

I stayed at the Coco Reef for a week in August this year and in general terms, everything was just as I expected for the price paid.

About the price, I have to say that there were much better deals on the internet on sites such as Tripadvisor.com, or Despegar.com. I wrote the hotel to find out about the rate and they quoted +USD 300 per night. I told them I had found a better rate on the web (USD 200 BB). I was quite surprised when they answered me that they could not offer the same rate that some of their agents were offering, so I'd better make my reservation with them instead of directly at the hotel. If I hand't known Tobagonians better I would have been shocked by their attitude (Isn't it better for the hotel to handle its own reservations and save on the commission?).

About the hotel per se, it's lovely. I chose it mainly because I have a 5 year old daughter, and the choice of a private, calm beach made me choose the CR. Breakfast was a delightful affair, except for the birds that kept pecking at the guests' plates. I only saw the guy with the owl and falcon once while I stayed there, but still, the birds don't seem to fear them anymore.

We had 3 problems during our stay: first, a leaking AC that took 3 visits from the maintenance man to fix. Second: on day 2 of our stay we had to call about 3 times to get our room arranged. Third: our phone had faulty numbers (several numbers had no tone). Other than that, everything was fine. The staff was very kind and everyone would say hello to you when passing by. Antonio, one of the managers, was extremely helpful with everything.

In all, everything was as I expected, except for the minor glitches. Definitely recommend if you have small children or if your prefer quiet beaches.

First glance, very nice beautiful scenery however a little cleaning can be done to enhance it.

Front Desk, very polite and professionlaism was carried out throughout my stay by all level of staff.

Room Service, efficient and up to standard.

Laundry Service, ridiculously OVERPRICED.

Resturants, RIDICULOUSLY OVERPRICED for food that will full a toddler cause it cannot full an adult, its d carribbean make normal size portions. However the taste was good because they use local seasoning.

Pool was safe and fun.

Pool and beach service efficient and up to standard.

I enjoyed my stay because I made the best of it but I will not return.
