What can I say? This place is a gem - an oasis of calm. The nature walks were good (even though I didn't see a Potoo). No matter how many times we will return to Tobago, we will always have a couple of days at Cuffie River.

We were looking for a special holiday for the family whose ages spread from 6 to 60.Our travel advisor from Tripps recommended that we stay at the Cuffie River for three nights as it offered something special.

I would have to say that our whole party enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect surrounded by verdant rain forest teaming with bird life and the stream below was visited by cayman.Desmond gave us an exhilarating tour of the forest which we all found fascinating the boys in particular asked a non stop stream of questions which Desmond was only to happy to answer.

The food was an absolute delight cooked in Tobagan style and served in a manner that has largely been forgotten in most places.

We all found the swimming pool an added bonus in which to cool down at the end of the day.

Thanks to Regina and her staff it was a delightful stay if not a little short.

We stayed there some time ago -- close to when the place was just built -- and loved it. The comments from recent stays warmed my heart becuase it sounds like it's still the same welcoming, personal experience we had. Thankfully, it also sounds as if the road has gotten better. When we were there, I wasn't sure if it was a road or an eroded river bed! Cuffie River was the highlight of a wonderful Tobago trip.

Dear Steve & Jill,

My wife Pat & I have just returned from a two week holiday on Tobago, celebratng our 25th wedding anniversary. We used your site for part of our trip preparation and were very pleased with the information you provided & your site layout & functionality. Thank you!

Week #1 was at a friend's cottage in Charlotteville, and we found this fishing town as friendly & delightful as most people have described it. Our second week on Tobago was spent at Cuffie River Resort, and we'd like to sing its praises:

Regina and Anthony Sanchez, the proprietors of Cuffie River were simply wonderful hosts. They looked after us as if we were family. We stayed in one of their "executive suites", a large comfortable room, well appointed, and with views out over the jungle forest from windows on three sides. Our second floor balconied aerie looked onto several nearby guava trees which were full of exotic birds from dawn to dusk: chachalacas, mot-mots, jacamars, hummingbirds, wrens, thrushes and more. We observed over 30 species in all. The meals were excellent, beautifully presented & representative of the local Tobagonian cuisine. The surroundings were peaceful (except for the morning cocrico chorus, and the twice daily raucous commutes of a hundred or so green Amazon parrots passing overhead), the grounds are well-tended, and their resident guide, Desmond, knowledgable and helpful. At the end of our stay, Anthony delivered us to the airport for our early morning departure, and remained with us until all departure details had been successfully sorted out. We recommend Cuffie River highly and we'd return in an instant.

Hope this information might be helpful to you, or your site visitors who are looking for a restful, ecologically responsible, small inn on this wonderful island.

With best wishes,

We spent two nights at the Cuffie River Nature Retreat, located slightly south and inland from Castara. It was the most amazing experience! The hosts, Regina and Anthony, have built a gem of an inn directly in the rainforest. It is a very unique building with ten rooms - open air, and designed in such a way that you catch all the breezes but no rain. We also didn't have a problem with insects. This place is fabulous and any nature lover must check it out! Also, the delicious food at the inn was lovingly prepared by local food "artists". I'm serious about this! The cooks did a phenominal job of preparing wonderful food with local spices and ingredients. We felt totally relaxed and pampered. Also, Desmond, an employee of the inn, is a wonderful rainforest guide and is also a very friendly fellow. He was very knowledgable. We went on a four hour hike and saw all sorts of plants, animals, and birds. Additionally, every morning, Regina feeds the birds. So, you will see lots of birds up close. There is also a swimming pool on site which is lovely and relaxing. We had such a wonderful time here. It was totally relaxing, safe, and enjoyable. I will definitely visit Cuffie River on my next visit to Tobago.
