Set high in the green hills of Tobago, Ambassador's House is the place to relax in comfort, unwind, and enjoy the laid-back pace of Caribbean life. It is a secluded family house in a wonderful location with panoramic views over both the Caribbean and the Atlantic. The Japanese influence apparent in its design helps to provide a calm peaceful atmosphere.
The garden is cultivated round the house and pool, and left as forest lower down the hill making a small wildlife sanctuary. As well as an abundance of different birds and butterflies, in the forest there are iguanas, salamanders, lizards and squirrels, and one of our guests even saw a capuchin monkey. At night the frogs and cicadas call to each other creating a wonderfully exotic ambience. The present house was built in the 1960's on the old Concordia cocoa estate, by a former US ambassador to Japan who retired to Tobago after many years in the Far East. The old plantation house must have been built here in the late 18th or early 19th century from the evidence of bits and pieces of china and pottery we have dug up in the garden which have been dated in the UK as 1800 -1850. The house has been renovated to a very comfortable standard and is well equipped as the English owners make it their home when they are in Tobago.
The Ambassador's House is on one level with a wide veranda running all around it, and being set on the top of a hill, not only does it catch the cooling breezes, but the views from here are spectacular, definitely some of the best on the island. The garden is full of mature trees: flame trees, palms, lime and grapefruit, also exotic fruit such as papaya, bananas and pineapples.
We have five guest double bedrooms ( all with fans) three with en suite bathrooms and two sharing a bathroom. Click for layout diagram. There are spacious living and dining rooms ( also with ceiling fans) and a well-equipped kitchen, with dishwasher, washing machine, 2 fridges and freezer. Telephone and fax are provided. Voltage is 112. The pool (unfenced) is 32ft by 16ft, the deepest part being approximately 5ftx6ft . The whole house has recently been redecorated throughout and the gardens are mature and well-maintained; children will love the freedom and space, and it is both toddler-friendly and also suitable for the elderly guest, as the house and the major part of the garden are on one level. For these reasons Ambassadors House has hosted many special family occasions, weddings. anniversaries, reunions and a 90th birthday.
Secluded, but not isolated, the Ambassador's House is a comfortable family house in extensive grounds, not a custom-built luxury villa in a holiday complex, and we offer people a unique opportunity to experience life in Tobago as visitors rather than tourists. Many of our guests have been back for return visits; once the relaxed way of life in Tobago, and at Ambassador's House in particular gets into your system it is hard to get it out ! Our housekeeper is a wonderful source of information and help to all our guests and she makes the holiday special for everyone, she is also a very good cook.
The house was recently refurbished throughout to a high standard. The house is Toddler-friendly and suitable for all age groups and offers spectacular birdwatching opportunities.

My family and I a party of eleven thoroughly enjoyed the three nights that we spent here.
The house was spotlessly clean and the surroundings were well kept.
Facilities inside were more than enough and we had no complaints at all.
Lesleyann was very friendly and warmly welcomed us.
I would unhesitantly recommend this villa to all those who want to have a really great time home away from home

It's an ideal family getaway that isn't far away. I would give it 5 of 5 stars. It's spacious yet cozy, a place where you can be noisy without disturbing the peace or find a secluded spot whilst everyone else is partying. We had a large group and everyone was comfortably accommodated. The location was very private yet close to all amenities. Just be careful of what's left outside as 'Goldy' would surely get hold of it.
