The Petit Careme villa is fully air-conditioned and offers spacious (290m2/3100ft2) luxury accommodation for families or groups seeking the highest standards of self-catering holiday accommodation. All three bedrooms are fully en-suite and all rooms are fully air-conditioned. It is beautifully furnished and decorated throughout, with walls painted in pleasant pastel colours, cool non-slip tiles on all floors and vibrant soft furnishings throughout.
The master bedroom is located on what is effectively the ground floor of the villa. At 34m2 it is massive by British standards. All the rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished, but the master suite was recently completed refurbished by the new owners, Wendy and Erik, and is now clearly the pièce de résistance.
This bedroom is furnished with a wonderfully comfortable king-size bed, nightstands with reading lamps, a large dressing table with half-length mirror, a pair of suitcase racks and 1.25m of full-length wardrobe space with clothes hangers, plus an armchair. There is also a single divan bed; ideal for a child. A cot is available, when needed.
The room has a wall-mounted 40-inch flat-screen television with fibre-broadband digital television service. Although there is no landline telephone in the villa, fibre broadband is available throughout the house.
The master bathroom features a modern table top wash basin, with shaver socket on the adjacent wall. An electric hairdryer is provided and can be shared with the other rooms. The attractive fully-tiled walk-in shower had recently been fitted with a 6-jet shower panel. Water pressure was reasonable and there always appeared to be adequate supplies of hot water.
Towels and linen are of excellent quality, with linen changes every three days, or as required. Beach towels are also provided.
The other two bedrooms are located on the upper floor. Despite being furnished with two 4´6˝ double beds, the second bedroom still appears spacious. Furnishings include bedside tables with lamps, a suitcase rack, a wooden towel/clothes rack and 1.7m of full-length wardrobe hanging space and shelving. This bedroom overlooks the central swimming pool. Glazed doors lead onto a narrow pseudo-balcony at the front of the building.
At 2.5x1.5m, the en-suite bathroom is of reasonable size, but well fitted, practical and attractive. The washbasin is set into an attractive vanity unit with drawers and an under-sink cupboard providing ample storage for toiletries. There is a 110v electric shaver socket and a fully-tiled walk-in shower unit.
Although the smallest of the three, bedroom three does not appear cramped despite having a queen-size bed, two nightstands with reading lamps, luggage racks at the foot of the bed and a towel/clothes rack. It is an attractive, light and airy room with glazed doors leading onto the small balcony and windows on the side wall.
The door to the en-suite bathroom is contained behind a false wardrobe door. Like the other rooms, the bathroom is attractively tiled and all fittings were in good condition, with little of the disfiguring corrosion so common in the tropics. The washbasin vanity unit has four drawers plus an under-sink cupboard. There is a shaver socket beside the washbasin and walk-in shower.
Living, Dining Room & Kitchen
The open-plan living, dining and kitchen area of Petit Careme Villa offers a very spacious 50m2 of floor space. The lounge seating consists of a sofa and two armchairs grouped around a coffee table, facing a 40-inch flat screen television with digital service and DVD player. The adjacent dining area features a large glass-topped dining table with eight chairs. The kitchen area is separated from the rest of the room by a large breakfast bar with a pair of wooden stools.
The kitchen is equipped with everything that a cook could want, rather than the somewhat standard sets of cutlery, crockery, pots, pans and utensils that one often finds in most rental properties. It has an excellent range of equipment including an electric oven/grill (broiler), dishwasher and large fridge/freezer, electric kettle, toaster, blender, coffee filter machine and microwave oven. There are lots of cupboards; most stocked with kitchen equipment. In fact everything necessary for comfortable self-catering for parties of up to ten people. Everything was in excellent condition and clean.
A washer and dryer are tucked away in a small utility area behind the kitchen and can be used by guests who rent the villa for five nights or more.
A small starter pack of basic ingredients is provided: salt and pepper, sugar, seasoning and a pack of ground coffee.
In the best traditions of good tropical design, Petit Careme's large 50m2 veranda is sure to become the centre of life for guests. It offers shade throughout the day and wonderful views over the lush colourful gardens, swimming pool and golf course.
The veranda is furnished with seven Adirondack-style cushioned wooden chairs, positioned around a central glass table featuring a charming display of seashells. The hammock is an incredibly relaxing place to chill out. The veranda is equipped with a large glass-topped dining table with six chairs and a large gas barbeque. You couldn't ask for a nicer venue to dine, day or evening.
The birds that constantly visit the feeder hanging above the veranda provided us with constant entertainment. Our favourite visitors were the friendly and colourful Trinidad Motmots who would visit several times a day to feast on the cheese we left out for them.
The villa also features a smaller open terrace on the upper floor. With a pergola partly shaded by amazingly vibrant white and purple bougainvillea, the terrace is a sun trap and provides a really private place to sunbathe.
Adjacent to the veranda, but half a dozen steps lower, is a small plunge pool. The surrounding lattice screen is lit with a mesh of LED string lights. It is a truly romantic spot.
