"Friendly, welcoming and exciting"
The little fishing Castara is probably the most interesting and exciting place I have visited. The locals are friendly and we all felt welcome. The beach is fantastic. There's plenty to see and all with a almost unreal beauty.
Castara is a small village. It is not the place with all-inclusive hotels.
There are good restaurants - but it's an advantage to have purchased the basics at the supermarket in Scarborough before you arrive in Castara.
My family and I lived for 11 days in Alibaba Seabreeze. We had two apartments. Seabreeze is located just 20 meters from the beach. There are terraces on all 4 apartments - all with a fantastic view.
We made breakfast every day and it was very nice to start the day with coffee and watch the sea.
Alibaba (his name is actually Brian) is incredibly helpful and sweet.
He is too one of the most respected tour guides on the island. And there's plenty to see and experience.
Just ask Alibaba.
Off the record - try the Sunday School - travel with boat right from the beach at night with the local fishermen. It's an experience.

We really enjoyed our stay. The Little Bay was a nice little spot for guests to swim in right off the property. The rooms were clean and well-stocked, the prices were reasonable. Location was great. The balcony really added to the stay as we could look out over the water and read and have our meals there. Only thing I wish was that the room had air conditioning or a dehumidifier (it had several fans, but it is not quite the same) and the king bed was actually made of up two twins. However, these were minor details. It was also nice to have Mr and Mrs Alibaba around to provide touring expertise and advice.

After much deliberation and considering many options, we decided upon the Sea Breeze for the major part of our recent trip to Trinidad & Tobago.......and what an inspired choice it turned out to be.
The location is idyllic, although anyone with walking difficulties would really need access to a car, and you can be on the beach in less than a minute. On our first full day "Brother" showed us the cut through path over the headland to the main beach and the village.
The appartment was clean, tidy and very well thought out with everything we could have wished for, and a view over both bays to die for. Steph and Brian could not have been more helpful and when the floor mounted fan failed, it was replaced within 20 minutes of us reporting it. Brian also let us run up a tab for various trips we did.
We used their transfer service and the driver, Dean, was brilliant stopping off at the supermarket near the airport to stock up with essentials and giving us a mini-tour on the way back to Castara. Dean also ran us up to Cuffie River and back as well as taking us on a longer tour of the Atlantic Coast and Scarborough and we thoroughly enjoyed his company.
All in all, faultless.

My significant other and I stayed at Alibaba's for 6 nights. The view was INCREDIBLE. We were woken every morning by wonderful birdsong. I would cut up pieces of banana and papaya and would get 25-30 birds coming to feast. One bold bird even came INTO the apartment to help himself to some bananas I had on top of the refrigerator!
We did end up using the mosquito netting, but not because of mosquitoes. If you kept the kitchen or balcony light on, the bugs would come in (very tiny flying bugs). There was only one traumatic bug story - a HUGE black beetle, twice the size of a Junebug, came flying in one night. I didn't see it up close - I was cowering in the bathroom. The net went down that night too :-)
The kitchen had everything you needed and the bathroom was very nice. We had a new mattress on the king-sized bed, which was a little hard for my taste, but might be OK for others. The ceiling fan kept the evenings cool. It was never really uncomfortable, because of the ocean breezes.
Even though the apartments are side-by-side, you couldn't hear voices or noises from the others unless they were out on the balcony or in the hallway - the ocean served as white noise. And it was great falling to sleep with the ocean crashing against the shore. It was wonderful to just put on your suit and be in the water in a matter of minutes.
It's a self-catering apartment, so other than a change of sheets/towels every three days, you're on your own. I much prefer that over having someone come in every day to bother you, and wasting water to change sheets and towels that really don't need washing.
There's also no airconditioning (wasn't needed), internet, tv or telephone (they do offer a top off phone you can rent). But that was great for us - we really needed to get away from it all and relax.
We took a wonderful all day tour of the rainforest/Argyle Waterfall, then had lunch with one of Alibaba's tour guides.
Everything I had read about Alibaba's was true - I had no complaints. We had a WONDERFUL visit and would recommend it to everyone.
