Alibaba's Sea Breeze - Reader Reports & Opinion

We have just returned from a 3 week visit to Tobago. We stayed at Alibaba Sea Breeze apartments. Contrary to the concerning information posted on the Trinidad and Tobago travel service website we found Castara very safe and the people very honest and hospitable.
We were met at the airport and after a stop at Penny Savers the supermarket (this was not really necessary because you can now get most essentials in the village) it was straight back to Castara. Although I have stayed in Castara before, this was my first stay at Alibaba’s. On arrival at the apartment our first impressions was of a well thought out apartment. The kitchen was well stocked with all the kitchen equipment necessary for a holiday including a clock.
After a night’s sleep the king size bed was very comfy and although the apartments are tucked away in the corner of Heavenly bay there are wonderful views of the bays from the balcony and to wake up to the sound of the waves lapping on the beach was wonderful. The wildlife viewed from the balcony was also varied, from a great variety of birds, a large iguana green lizard, lots of smaller lizards and a red squirrel.
The apartment was cleaned and bedding changed 3 times a week. Steph or Brian (Alibaba) did everything to ensure that our holiday was relaxed and trouble free. We went on several Alibaba tours including the rain forest, a boat trip along the coast. The highlight of the holiday, was when we were able to swim with dolphins on our snorkelling trip. With Alibaba’s expert management of the boat he enabled everyone who wanted to, to spend time with these wonderful wild creatures.
Will I be returning to Castara, yes I will.

We found Alibaba Sea Breeze to be the ideal location in which to stay and appreciate the peace and beauty of Heavenly bay. The accommodation was very good, clean and tidy, the maid service provided was appreciated. Brian and Stephanie who own Sea Breeze apartments also owns and organise boat trips including an amazing beach b-b-q, Island tour trips and Alibarba tours, also organised rain forest and fishing trips. All in all we all four enjoyed our four weeks holiday in a delighfully unspoiled fishing village.

Simply perfect, Stephanie, (who replies all our e-mails very quickly) Alibaba and their staff are really serviceminded. Quiet location, clean rooms, big ceiling fans, lovely shady balcony facing the sea, colibris and other birds around the threes, a wonderful beach 10 meters from the balcony. We also went to carnival and a rainforrest tour with them. Just visit their homepage and book.

We loved Castara and our stay at Alibaba´s. Our appartement had the most fantastic view. The accommodation was very comfortable, practical, and ideal for a couple self-catering. We could have stayed there forever.
The appartments are very clean and spacious. The citchen is equiped with everything you need.
The lovely beach is just a stone's throw away. And there you find also the great "Boat House Beach Bar". A place to relax and to drink the famous "Rum-Punch".
We stayed for one week at Alibaba´s. Then we had to leave to Charlotteville. Three days later we came back to Castara, because we missed this place so much. We spent the rest of our holidays there. And we are sure to come back some day.

This place and the whole ambience of Castara is unique - and we loved it. Life on a balcony has never been better than Alibabas, we were generally awake by 6.30am and sat on the balcony enjoying the sights and sounds of the wildlife of Castara, so relaxing and enjoyable - we are not normally balcony people, but it was too good to miss.
A pre-breakfast dip in the sea was easy and refreshing - the kitchen had all we needed to rustle up light meals.
Snorkelling - wow! saw wonderful shoals, and some larger fish such as Rays and some turtles, with the storks and other sea birds diving for fish around you.
We both felt save - both in the water and in the village
The culture of the village is different - we soon found it easy to fit in with the locals ways. You might turn up at a restaurant, with no-one (staff or customers) visible, a little call out usually brought some-one out from the house behind, sometimes no menu visible so we just asked what they were cooking tonight and they would usually offer 3 or 4 options - always well cooked, tasty and served with a smile.
It was actually good fun to experience eating out in this style... and the folks although sometimes initially 'shy' were friendly and fun to talk with.
We loved the 24 hour 'backing music' of birds, frogs, the sea and the chickens
If you are looking for 5 star luxury and cuisine with silver service Castara may not be for you - but we can't wait to get back
Many thanks to My tobago and the team at Alibabas for helping us discover and thoroughly enjoy Castara.
