Bananaquit - Reader Reports & Opinion

The disappointment only came about because when I booked, I booked a front villa but because of scheduling conflicts, I was bumped to the back. In 2010 I stayed in the front villa with some friends and the view was nicer and I wanted my family to experience the same. Aside from that, Bananaquit was a wonderful stay for my entire family. I brought my 7 month old baby unexpectedly yet they accommodated him with a play yard to sleep in. They claimed to be renovating but I noticed nothing out of the ordinary *which was a plus. We enjoyed every bit of the stay and would do it again without hesitation for 2013. Thank you.

I stayed at Bananaquit for 13 nights (24th Feb - 8 March 2012), and had a very pleasant stay. My satisfaction rating would be higher, however at the time I stayed, and I knew in advance, that the establishment was, and is still under renovation at this time. Therefore everything was as I expected.
The service I received was excellent I found the staff helpful and friendly, nothing seemed too much trouble.
In terms of improving during renovations, although my room had been completed in terms of redecoration; the cooking facilites and kitchen utensils should be new and reflect the upgrade being undertaken.
It took 4 days to have the TV cable box installed which whilst it wasn't a bother to me, it might be for someone who likes to watch TV. Once I had the TV, the selection of channels on the cable service was very good.
The particular room I stayed in needs to be rearranged, which I made a comment about whilst I was there, this would make the best use of light available.
The door needs a blind that does not allow people to look into the room when the lights are on.
Servicing of the room:
It was good, however, I smiled at the differing levels of servicing, some days I had clean towels for several days on the trot and other times I might wait 3 days; more soap added even when it wasn't needed.
I would say it is important to remember when cleaning the shower room and the WC to also clean the door handles and paintwork around the door handles as these are being handled all the time, and leave lots of marks and likely germs around this area of the doors.
Sometimes the clean sheets would be given and left on the bed for me to make up; another day the bed would be completely made up for me. I was amused by this behaviour as I never knew what to expect, just that someone would be in to empty the bins, and show evidence of their presence in some other way.
Every day I made my bed, (this is after all a self catering apartment) but one day I returned to find the sheet and overcover turned half way down the bed, i.e. now unmade again. I just laughed to myself.
I would say it would be helpful if their is consistency in the servicing level so guests know what to expect.
It was not a problem at all to me, but to provide great customer service, consistency is important.
I enjoyed my stay here, it is clean, comfortable, the room was large, even though it is likely the smallest room in the whole building. There is use of a swimming pool, and the garden is well kept.
I would stay here again, and I have already recommended it to two other people.

Based on a few reviews I was a little skeptical of staying at Bananaquit. But, I really wanted somewhere close to storebay and at a reasonable price, so I gave it try as i liked the way it looked.
I really enjoyed my stay. The manager Rachel was very welcoming and friendly and the staff, Kristina and Nadia made me feel right at home `island style`. There were renovations and upgrades taking place which were explained on my arrival and did not affect my stay at all. I liked the intimacy of the hotel and friendliness of other guests and staff , and the fact that it was close to evrything I wanted to do in 2 days.
If you are looking for a cool place, cool people, good vibes at a great price, then this is the place, or at least it was for me, and I will be back.

The Bananaquit hotel is a family styled place, not too big, not too small. Clean, relaxed, small quiet garden and nice rooms with all utilities you need to take care of your own cooking, if you prefer. The pool is shared with the neighboring hotel, perfect for an hour or two, if you just want to relax.
I must also give credit to Rachel Best (host) for her friendliness, which helped make me feel welcome from day one until I left. Thanks!
I will be back and can highly recommend a stay here.

I own the brahmabhuta guesthouse in trinidad; i had sent a group of suriname visitors to stay in 2 apartment units at bananaquit; three days before christmas i had also booked an apartment at bananaquit for my wife and 3 kids; I was asked by the management to make the payment at republic bank in trinidad. I made the full payment for the suriname group for the 2 apts i had booked as well as our apt; I called rachel (the manager-owner) and told her i made the full payment; Lo and behold when my suriname group arrived one day before myself and my family i was embarassed by rachel who informed my suriname guests that she did not get any payment? i was totally ashamed and it gave me a very bad name because rachel MUST have some way of checking with her bank to see that the payment was made; When i arrived the morning on the 22 nd december i told her i wanted the payment issue sorted out immediately; She then informed me she had received the payment; But it was too late because when i arrived i found my suriname guests looking at me very funny; I had 5 members in my family and only 2 towels in the unit; Not until after one and a half days the maid brought towels for us and apologized. The cable TV was not working the first day and the few channels thereafter were in spanish!!except the news channel.
