Birdie's Nest - Reader Reports & Opinion

The apartment was immaculately clean and cool.. Our bed was large and comfortable but its a shame that the bedroom window lets in so much noise ftom next door -- the neighbours whilst we were there, who seemed to start their days much earlier than us and finish them much later, were quite loud. It was good that Prince let us use both the bathroom and shower room on the 2-person occupancy rate. I liked the shower but my husband preferred the bath which was huge and so deep I had difficulty in getting into it. The kitchen was well equipped for two self catering with some very high quality cooking pans.
The gardens and pool are beautiful and well maintained and there are fabulous views over the ocean from the deck which is a perfect place for sundowners. Whilst we were there there was a weather alert for heavy seas which meant we could not swim below the house but with a hire car we were easily able to get to a number of other more sheltered beaches.
Prince was very helpful and was very anxious to ensure that we enjoyed oyr stay to the full and he certainly achieved that.

1/ Our Hosts - Prince is a relaxed, efficiant, natural host and a mine of local knowledge as well as organising collection and delivery from the airport he arranged trips and outings and was tuned in to our every need without being obtrusive.
2/The apartment - we had the upstairs flat which has a fabulous view of the Caribbean from the two balconies. It was spotlessly clean and completely equipped for comfortable living right down to books and DVD's. Everything worked, the aircon was quiet and effective. The pool is great, big enough for a decent swim or just to laze around by. Hard to choose whether to amble the fifty yards to the warm sea or just fall in the pool.
3/ Prince's small car hire fleet is (by Tobago standards)in excellant condition and good value. The Mazda we had for the week worked fine and coped with island roads well. Aircon was most welcome and fuel is ridiculously cheap compared to Europe.Beware of "private" car renters - they are unlikely to have insurance for hire. Proper rental cars (like Prince's) have registrations starting with "R".
4/The beachside location on the Caribbean side of the island is fine - centrally located without being too remote and difficult to get to. It's much calmer and you see brilliant sunsets. There are at least two excellant restarants close by plus a plethora of street food vendors and speciality fish or roti shops and a reasonable supermarket within walking distance.
5/ Overall we had a superb holiday, the locals are much frendlier than other Caribbean islands we have visited, although it does take a day or so to adjust to "TT time"!!

Tobago is a dream for beach nymphs, water sports enthusiasts and nature lovers. So if you are looking for an island that has not yet lost all of its originality, then you are exactly right. However, you should have a good source of information on your side otherwise you will find only half of the natural beauties that are described so well in all the guidebooks. But that's the price of originality.
And this perfect source of information for me was Mr. Prince Robinson of Birdies Nest.
From Birdies Nest I first learned through a recommendation. As a single woman just a bit over 50 years, I was used to organize my holidays for myself and to take care of everything. All the more I was amazed and pleasantly surprised when Mr. Prince Robinson announced that he had already organized everything : the transfer from the airport , the first visit to the supermarket , road maps , addresses of guides and a driver, a cell phone for phone calls locally, even bath towels (Stop! the have been just for me  and this is not an official service), rental car, which he offers himself and a two-hour conversation only to give me advices, where I can go as a single woman and what I should rather do with a guide.
Mr. Robinson took care of before and during my stay at all and I have had rarely such a relaxing holiday!
Since you live in an apartment, you can order a breakfast over a catering service, you can also walk to some restaurants in the area, have a wonderful view from the pool area, which is by the way constantly cleaned carefully, surrounded by plants you can watch pelicans and hummingbirds. You will live among the locals and can thus experience the true Tobago!
With the rental car and Mr. Prince Robinson's advices I have surrounded the island, I've seen a lot of waterfalls, beaches, birds, rain forest, I sailed with a catamaran (I have booked a tour), I've snorkeled (although I'm not the snorkel fan, but the reefs are so beautiful that even I dared a look), have put me in the Nylon Pool (well the taper to 10 years did not work out) and have spent wonderful days at beaches.
I can only recommend Birdies Nest warmly and should you be a single woman, you have in Tobago and in Birdies Nest a safely holiday!

Prince was the most charming host and Princess was so friendly. This is an excellent place to stay with cleanliness, privacy and beautiful sunsets. Get away from the tourist area and stay in a real Tobago village - visit Mike's bar and drink with the locals.
Prince could not have done enough for us and was engaging and always willing to share his knowledge and also learn from us (he now knows what a real English Gin & Tonic is all about!)
Fantastic place and fantastic people.
