Just got back from what should have been a holiday in Golden Thistle Hotel and I absolutely CANNOT RECOMMEND THAT PLACE TO ANYONE! My recommendation is that the Tobago House of Assembly set up some sort of assessment board to ensure that the quality promised in brochures and websites is accurate! It was horrid and I feel robbed! Bockety fridge, a cramped tiny room, mildewed dishcloth, dingy old towels, pillows that were lumpy and dead, a smelly blanket, househelp that merely remade beds and swept, dishes left in sink, microwaves offered only if one rented it in addition to what was paid for the room, water problems, tableware looked like scrap ends from a garage sale, nothing matched and everything was very old and heavily used in addition to being an exact two in number of each. Certainly not what was promised nor what I expected when I paid down. The brochure and website heavily misrepresents what is actually there! Hospitality was missing. Not even a bit of diswashing detergent to wash the dishes and matches to light the stove were not provided unless one bought them from the hotel restaurant. The ambience is depressing and somewhat survivalist. I was deeply disappointed and swore that I won't be back in Tobago in a hurry. I stayed in Rm 54 even though I paid extra for a poolside room and was promised thus over the phone and it was absolutely awful, all the worse, because it was the Easter Weekend and I couldn't get another place to move to and was forced to endure as best as I could...I refused to stay in Tobago a moment longer than I had to and caught a flight on standby 5-6hours earlier than I was supposed to leave. Disgusting and I'm thoroughly disgusted!

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL EVER!!!! [size=85:2cmvmjgb]

My stay here was suppose to be 3 days and 2 nights but it turned into 1 day and 1 night because I GOT ROBBED! It was the worst thing that ever happend to me in my life. I came outside at night on my front porch to enjoy the night and a man with a mask and a huge knife in his hand came up to me, took me in the room where my brother and sister were, told us to face down on the bed and took all our money and belongings. We were left with our clothes only. When the man left we contacted the people that own the place and they did nothing...nothing at all, not even call the police for us. We contacted the police by calling a family memeber in Trinidad, to call the police for us. The phones in the room was not working and there were NO securety, NO cameras, Nothing. The place was not safe at all. They have people watching your every move and preying on tourist. [size=85:2cmvmjgb] I DO NOT ADVISE ANYONE TO STAY AT THIS HOTEL EVER. PLEASE HEAR ME NOW...DO NOT STAY HERE, THIS COULD BE YOU AND IT COULD BE WORST THAN MY EXPERIENCE.

My husband and I were looking foward to some much needed relaxation, we chose the perfect spot I will say "home away from home". Christmas lunch was fantastic.(and I thought I was the best cook) Tanty Cam thank you.

We will be back with friends.

My sis, daughter and I checked in on August 18, approximately 5:30 pm. There were lots of guests checking in also. Although a bit time consuming, Michael was very patient and dealt personally with every guest. I think this was fabulous, as customers are looking for the personal touch, being couteous, pleasant and warm. Anything that is needed is addressed by Michael. Having the experience myself, everything about this trip was positive. My view is, you can't please each customer taste and value differ.

I just want to share the great moment, nothing short of fantastic. The rooms were well kept, clean and fully air conditioned, mini kitchen and hygenic bathroom. I have no regrets for checking in at the Golden Thistle which I understand is one of the earliest hotels set up in Tobago. If you want to have a quiet scenic time in the Sister's Isle, then Golden Thistle is what you're looking for.

My vacation started at approximately 4:30am that morning and when I arrived at The Golden Thistle at approximately 10pm, let's say I was not exactly in the best of spirits.

Michael, the hotel owner, warmly greeted me and immediately got me settled in for the night. After a good night's rest, I was again warmly greeted by Michael and Ms. Carmela, the hotel cook. I enjoyed a tasty and filling outdoor breakfast while being serenaded by the birds that filled the garden.

My room was spacious and had all of the ammenities that I needed for comfort. Most important, it was air conditioned. It had a full bathroom including a tub with both hot and cold water. The room was cleaned daily by two of the nicest ladies you could meet. They were attentive and detailed in their duties. It had a kitchen, not a kitchenette. A working gas stove, a large refrigerator and was stocked with basic cooking utensils. My room was located by the pool area. The pool was clean and well kept.

The hotel was just a short walk to not only the beach, but to shopping, and even the airport (I walked to the airport on my departure). The Golden Thistle is located just off a a main road and has not only nice fruit trees along the road, but a variety of flowers and greenery. I was accompanied by some of the local residents daily on my walks (dogs, chickens and sheep (I thought they were goats!!!).

Michael and his staff are top notch. They were helpful and kind and constantly asked me if I needed any help with anything. By my 3rd day, Ms. Carmela knew what I would be having for breakfast and even offered to teach me how to make "fry bake". I found this to be the "true Tobago experience".

Was this the Ritz-Carlton? Nope. The charm, warmth and hospitality that was offered to me could never be duplicated by a chain hotel. I had a wonderful time in Tobago and look forward to bringing my family to The Golden Thistle at Christmas.
